In Wellington, the Hurricanes will host the Western Force on Friday to open week 15 of Super15 Rugby. The Hurricanes are in 11th spot on the log and with 14 points behind the Highlanders they seem to be done for the year. No play offs for the Canes. The Force are in 12th spot, 2 points behind the Wellington side and they will be looking for their first ever win in Wellington.

The sides played in Wellington 3 times so far. In 2006, 2008 and 2010. The only win by the Force over the Hurricanes was in 2007, when they managed to beat them in Perth thanks to tries from Drew Mitchell and Cameron Shepherd.

Come on boys :D i hope the AB players have a good run...Jane, Nonu, Smith, Gear, Weepu, Tialata, Hore, Vito.....

Put 84 out of my 85 remaining virtual cash on the Canes winning by 7 or more...then I looked at the odds. Damn. I'm not entirely convinced either, but I guess it's worth a shot...

gambling is a mugs game...the virtual children won't be eating much tonight.

I think it will be close up until half time. But the defence probably wont hold for 80 minutes, unless they do a real good job at hiding the young players in defence. (And the attack works).

Line ups:

Sidey and Dellit have the opportunity to prove themselves against the best here.

Injured I think. He's also pretty slow now, I'm not sure he'd mark the starting XV anymore, though I'd like him to. Especially considering Andrew Hore is an average captian, who never stays on longer than 60 minutes (and isn't starting this game).

backing the canes all the way. with some of their stars back and JOC out for the force It's hard to imagine anything but an 8+ victory

The Canes should start this game as firm favourites, especially as the Force have lost their two top first-five options (O'Coonor and Ripia). O'Coonors loss will be particularly hard on them, as he's almost single-handedly keep the Force in a number of games this year. It will be interesting to see how Stannard goes at 10, given he is far more familiar at halfback (at least at Super Rugby level).

The Force probably have better locks as well as an edge in the loose-forward trio, but the Canes look to have an advantage in most other areas. It will be good to see Coles get some extended game time for the Hurricanes. Though he doesn't have the same workrate or ability at the breakdown as Hore, he does give the Canes another attacking option, and could cause the Force a lot of problems with his running wide of the ruck. I'm particularly looking forward to the matchup between McCalman and Vito at number 8. Vito has been in great form this year, but the problem for him is that the other AB's contenders for the 6/8 jersey (Messem/Thomson) have been in arguable even better form (Messem in particular over recent weeks). It will certainly be a another good game for Vito to show what he's got against a high-quality Force loose-trio.

Interesting to see Weepu is still on the bench. It was clear he was nowhere near full fitness in his last game, but hopefully his fitness level is increasing ever week. It is going to be an important game for the a number in the Canes back division, with Nonu, Smith, Gear, and Jane wanting to show some late season form before the AB's are picked for the Tri-nations. Realistically neither Nonu nor Smith are under any real pressure, but will want to get the best of the inexperienced mid-field duo they are facing. Hosea Gear and Cory Jane however may be feeling a bit of heat from a number of outside backs, so similarly need to show that they are at the top of their games. It will be good to watch the matchup between ex-Hurricane David Smith and Andre Taylor, as both are very elusive players (though Taylor is a much more complete player).

I'm picking the Canes to take it by 15-20 points.

Definitely a good match up, McCalman vs Vito.

I expect the Canes to throw a few U&U's in David Smith's direction. Which could cause problems.

I predict the Force by 1 point :D ... actually that was pick in my picking comp ... before I realised that:

a/ It isn't a home game for the force.
b/ Both James O'Conner and Wilie Ripia are injured
c/ The Canes have 5 All Blacks starting in their back line, and another coming of the bench
d/ It's being played on Aaron Cruden's home ground.

I'm really hoping that this game proves to be the open encounter that you could expect with these two sides meeting, but now that the player mix is a little different in the Force I'm not sure they'll play the way they have in past run-in's with the Hurricanes. Either side could win it and I do like the Hurricanes, but this game is going to come down to who recycles their ball fast enough. Could be a few tries in it for each side. Don't mean to sit on the fence, but with these two teams playing the way they are anything can happen. :D

So is the crowd going to wear yellow bucket hats on there heads tonight???? Go the Canes

Force are playing awesome. Shepherd is playing a blinder. The post-JOC era doesn't look too bad watching this game.

Anyway, get ready for a try-fest.

Long way to go in this game but the Force and the Canes now both have tries score:

Canes 7 - Force 13 (23 min)

Stannard is my new God. Move the **** over Ripia.

Great try by the force and now it needs to be converted. Missed but looks like they came to play and show their critics a thing or two.

OK so halftime the score is: Force 18 - Canes 10

Lets see what the second half will bring us.

So its reaching that point were errors can cost you big time canes bounced back with a great try.

Wow brilliant try by Ben this is not what I acpected at all!

OK the score is: Force 25 - Canes 17 (58 min)

Both teams have traded penelties now and the game is really balanced now.

That might be just what the Canes needed a well planed and executed off load and they score.

OK the score is: Force 28 - Canes 27 (7 min remaining)

Well, the game is panning out a lot like this. But what do I know?

Wave after wave on attack the defence of the Canes was just too strong. The Force still played incredible but must not feel battered about this loss as they showed Great Spirit. Well done with the canes for a fighting win.

Oh well, at least we have found a new fly half out of all this. Don't know why we didn't try Stannard there earlier.
