speed deemonz

Have you got a source?
I don't believe for a second that Foden is faster than Ashton.

Sharples apparently had the fastest 40m time in the England training squad in the lead-up to the RWC (with a time of 4.82s): (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ru...ples-is-making-rapid-strides-for-England.html).

This story confirms that Simpson had the fastest 10m and 40m times of any England player at the RWC (though Strettle was apparently faster than him before he was cut from the squad).

As a slight aside, I found it very interesting listening to NZ Sevens coach Gordon Tietjens talk about speed. He was saying that, for Sevens at least, repeat speed was far more important than one-off speed. For example someone who can run 40m in 5.1s ten times in a a row would be far more valuable than someone who can run a 4.8s 40m, but got worse each time. The player with a 4.8s may be able to run around the slower player at the start of the match, but 5 minutes in they may well be running at the same speed, and by half-time (and beyond) the 'slower' player will no doubt be running around the supposedly 'faster' player!

Bloody good point in the second paragraph.

That also makes May frighteningly fast, which I think anyone who saw him put the afterburners on Monye can confirm...

Go on you strettle fastest Englishman in the premiership according to previous posts.
Is he in the new English squad?

Yeah, he is.

Dipped in and out of the Sarries game earlier: Strettle's on good form atm, it's going to be hard to pick the starting wings out of Strettle/Ashton/Sharples.

Honestly, I think Ashton is just a bit too comfortable with the 14 shirt. Against Scotland at least I think it would be best to let Strettle try and prove himself to spark a little more competition in the squad.

Completely agree with some of the above by the way, May is lighting.

Indeed, I've often heard of May being compared to a 40w Bulb.

Seriously though, as much as I don't rate Strettle I think he should start over Ashton vs Scotland. Ashton thinks the place is his becuase he's a superstar... he needs to learn that form not name gets you a place and if he lets his on field game drift off he won't get played.

It is a well known fact that Ashton's speed is directly related to the size of the cheque book being waved at the finish line :).

I am not bitter.

Backs:
Wade, Foden, Ashton, Sharples, Strettle?
Forwards:
Croft, Wood, Brits, Johnson, Budgen is lightening quick from one metre :roflrol:
