Scotland v Australia 24/11/2024 - (13.40)

Yeah outside of SA, Ireland, France, NZ who is 5th?
Scotland, Aus and Argentina all kinda the same level who have shown improvements and progress

Hopefully by next RWC we have 8 genuine ***le contenders which I think is possible.

I think Scotland and Argentina are clearly ahead of Australia, but Australia have had a good Autumn and shown they are clearly on an upward trajectory overall.

I suppose. However, Argentina can and do beat top 4 sides pretty much on an annual basis. Scotland never do. Until that starts happening, they're still no better than their ranking suggests.

So... about 5th-6th then

Perhaps I'm being pedantic but they're solidly 6th for me. Argentina deservedly 5th and showing more potential of toppling top 4 sides.

I think putting Australia where they are is generous. Yes, they beat England but that's it really. One swallow apparently makes a summer after all.

It was previously England and I think they will get there again. They have the talent to be comfortably better than Aus, Scroteland and Argentina without quite matching it with the big boys.

Argentina are solidly 5th for me. Had they played England and Scotland on this tour I believe they would have won both games. I think SA are no1 by a fair bit, then it's Ireland, NZ and France very close together. Despite losing to them this Autumn I think if we played Australia 10 times we'd win 7 or 8 of them. Scotland 6th is about right I think. From an England point of view being 7th in the World is just abject really. We should be pushing the top 4 at a minimum. It's not good enough. If we don't finish in the top 2 in the 6N then Borthwick should be surplus to requirements.

I think the rankings are nearly bang on being less interested in position and more based on points (+/- 1 point means nothing). France a bit undervalued after Dfter Dupont's soujourn with 7s and expect them to stay like that for awhile considering they'll be understrength in NZ.

Bit cocky from a team who have won how many of their last 10 games?

England are maybe as good as Scotland or Argentina. 5th is probably realistically about as high as we could be at the moment.

We tend to lose against teams above us and beat up the teams below us. With the odd wins Ireland 6 nations \ Argentina RWC. Home loses Fiji \ Australia.

I reckon 6 contenders is the limit at the moment. SA, France and NZ will be there, we should be there or therabouts but no guarantee just yet, Argentina, England and Aus could get upto the level but I'd bet on at least one of them not getting there, don't see Scotland improving as much as they need to.

Since 2016 England and Australia have played 12 times. England have won 10 of those meetings while Australia have only won 2 matches. This includes an 8 game England win streak, 3-0 whitewash over Australia in Australia in 2016 and a 2-1 series victory for England in Australia in 2022, plus the 2019 RWC quarter final.

However, when I look at Australia's team sheet now it is starting to come together. The tight five of Bell, Tupou, Skelton, Frost ETC paired with the back row of Bobby V, MCreight and Wilson makes for a really solid pack. The back line looks great with Ikitau and Suaalii nicely complimenting each other in the centres and an elctric back 3. I am interested to see how this team develop, lots of promise all over the park and know how to chuck a ball around.

Yeah look, not much we can do about the post RWC15 Cheika era now.
