South African Quadrangular Tournament

sorry you are correct, he is not out of form he is just plain kak...
You clearly haven't watched the Stormers play at all this year. I'd go so far as too say he has been one of SR's form insides, playing in a struggling team nogal.

Agreed! For someone who lives in the cape, Icemn is once again not well informed. Trolling at its best

In Icemn's defense there is definitely part of me that wants to see JDV decline, it's a terrible thing to admit but there is always this thought in the back of my head that JDV just can't last till 2015 and we should put in Serfontein asap so he can establish his place.

That said with most of our leadership corps gone after 2011, and him still playing extremely well both defensively and offensively we just can't ignore him.

So most want Serfontein at outside centre now, would he move to inside centre after JdV leaves? I really hope Jordaan kicks on after last season and following his injury. Jan and Paul could be an excellent pairing. Engelbrecht and Ebersohn should not be left behind either. What about William Small-Smith, he was up and coming last I heard. Pat Howard is another, came through Michaelhouse with the other Pats and was quickly snapped up by WP.

All the more reason to pick him now. This tournament vs Italy, Samoa and Scotland is Ideal to let JDV and the other older guys give valuable knowledge to the youngsters. To many, this tournament is a bit of a farce. I for one think it has been a brilliant move by Saru. HM has now settled in to the hotseat. He has learned some valuable lessons. Last year we made some steps forwards and backwards, now he knows where to improve, just like he did when he was at the Bulls. Our seasoned players are all either going abroad or getting injured or are injured. So HM has the greatest opportunity to grow the squad. Oz have the tough task of the B&I Lions and NZ have the french. They don't have the luxury to blood new talent and expect to win. if they blood too many too quickly, they could lose their series, their ranks on the IRB list could be in jeapordy and they have the extra problem of players getting injured more when playing top opposition. That said, I'm not downplaying the strength of the 3 teams coming to SA, but to be honest, i think we will comfortably.

That will give us a moral boost ahead of the Rugby Championship. if NZ and Oz lose their series, it will dampen their moods when the Super 15 and Rugby Championship gets underway.

As for JDV, he and Jan has been the best 12's for SA in the tournament so far, with Ebersohn a short ball-hair behind them. I feel sorry for Robert, but to be perfectly honest, he's too small, and he has the same skill set that JDV and Jan have.

I would mix it up with Jan and JDV in both positions to see what will happen.

Small-smith is out injured, and hasn't played much this year. So he can't be in contention right now, hopefully when the Currie Cup starts he will be good to go, then it just depends where he will play. With Mapoe out for the rest of the season, my guess is Small-smith will be playing at wing, and swap JJ at centre.

Another guy that has impressed me is Piet Lindeque. Now that he's going to the CHeetahs, i think will help his progression immensely. As for Jordaan, I like him more than Ebersohn at 13. now he just needs to stop being injured, and play some decent rugga like he did last year.

Except, you know, the ability to set up his outside players...

I don't understand how anyone doesn't think Eberson is the best 12 in South Africa atm...

His vision, handling and passing are amazing. I somehow get the feeling that if he was two years younger and part of that last JRWC team, every Saffa would have him in the team. JdV runs hard, is consistent and has good defense - but I think hes completely over rated. I agree its been arguably his best season in a few years - but I'd still take Eberson every day of the week.

You Kiwi's and your "passing" waste of time in my opinion.
;)

edit: Twitter says de Jong is injured and Ebersohn has been called up.

You seem to forget what a lethal combination JDV and Jaque Fourie was... JDV has the ability to setup his outside backs, but that only works if the outside backs are in sync with JDV. To me, JDJ and Taute last year, failed miserably! That shows that too much criticism was put on JDV, but what was he supposed to do when the others are off form, and just playing kak.

Now JDV will be surrounded be quick feet, clever runners, Jan, Willie, Mvovo, Basson etc are all great runners off good lines. let's see what happens shall we?

This one here is pretty bad as well though not at comical levels like the previous two clips.

I can't stop watching these !!! it's addictive, I dunno...

Yeah, Plums now ****ed Piet over twice (as well as Kanko, reportedly).
The sooner we get rid of that pleb the better.

A backrow of Louw, Alberts (on form), and Botha could be very good indeed. Add Coetzee if he can hit good form.
Paul was on fire last season. Considering that our backline has been kak, I won't have a go at him.

Heard Kanko is returning to 7's
For now yeah. Such a waste in one sense, but he will excel with the Blitzbokke. Sounds like he will be leaving Durban as well, back to Japan supposedly, and then to Europe. We draft in players from other unions while we chuck Ryan under a bus and have the likes of Kleinhans and Stander out in the cold. Awful, awful management.

yup, guess the management have the last say and if you have issues with them, you as a player will loose out
Wonder is John Smit have big enough balls to make things happen in Sharksland?

Kanko WILL excel at 7's

Definitely!!

I'm just wondering how the hell did he end up in this Rugby desert he finds himself in??

From being a front runner for the National side, to being a bench warmer for the Sharks to being casted out and sent to 7's. Don't get me wrong, I'm not downplaying the value of sevens rugby. I'm just thinking he's doing it the wrong way round.

Players usually play Craven Week/U20 WC/Vodacom cup and then gets the chance to join Paul Treu in advancing their skills. If they perform, they get called up to Currie Cup/SR and now even bok squads. Prime examples being Gio Aplon and Robert Ebersohn.

What does this say about the man? My guess is he has been casted out by the Sharks, and most probably because of an attitude problem... Makes me wonder if that news article earlier in May wasn't about Keegan Daniel, but rather about Kanko...

Think this is a "filler" till he signs with an International club, he is done with SA rugby as I see things

Yeah it's quite a mystery. He has said that there is no issue with management, but I didn't see his form being rose than others, yet he was seemingly dropped. I hope Smit will do a bit of a clear out. Not trying to Sharkify this thread, my apologies.
Looking forward to this. With all the rugby this Saturday might end up not sleeping!

KANKO HASNT BEEN ON FORM IN YEARS....In reality he was always overrated for me, did nothing except try to step everyone in his path but than still gets tackled about 2 metres from where he started! Terra Mthembu on the other hand can go on to be one of the best No.8's in this country, reminds me of Kierran Read in a way, he's big, carries the ball well and makes some big tackles!! Just hope we can nurture him properly and give him more game time.
