[TEXTAREA]Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has suspended the privileges of SA Rugby, Cricket South Africa and Athletics SA from bidding for international tournaments due to lack of transformation.

I will review this decision when considering the results of the 2016/2017 Transformation Barometer.[/TEXTAREA]

Seems like we will not be hosting the 2023 RWC

The sad thing is this muppet probably has no clue what the ramificatios for the country actually are. Its probably too much to expect considering the total lack of understanding or care for the country of those above him and those who vote for these people.

I suspect the can of worms has now been opened. The people are going to flip! I won't be surprised if Afriforum, the DA or any other political party now take this matter further.

What's funny is that in the same speech he compliments SAFA (South African Football Association) for compliance, except in the private schools and former Model C schools, where transformation isn't taking place as rapidly as expected.

I wish that WR would now ban SA from competing in international tournaments, just to shut this Zuma-fan up.

What would ATM be the most Quota friendly SA side without comprising to much in performance?

1 Beast
2 Mbonambi/Ntubeni/ Kings Hooker
3 Nyakane
4 Giant Mtyande? / Hilton Lobberts maybe (very shallow depth here)
5 Oupa Mohoje
6 Kolisi
7 Notshe
8 Carr
9 Paige
10 Jantjies
11 Lots of options Skosan/Zas/Pietersen x2 / Basson/ Habana/ Rhule
12 Lionel Mapoe / Juan De Jongh
13 Howard Mnisi
14 See 11
15 Kolbe

I am sure I missed a few from the Kings and the Sharks.

Would it really matter? The fact that our Government is now forcing Sporting Bodies to comply with Quotas, has already done harm to the sport codes. We don't know anymore if a black player is picked on merit. The immediate assumption is that he's a quota pick, because of the constant bickering by our Government.

I was just wanting to see how big a change it would be.

As an outsider I appreciate I don't have a full understanding of the racial/political situation in South Africa so am careful of making judgements.

However, it does feel as time goes on that principals/policies which 20 years or so ago were well-intentioned and probably necessary are becoming more and more damaging, not just to rugby but to South Africa as a culture and possibly to race relations today.

Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm sure my understanding is very simplistic, but all this transformation controversy does seem like no-one gains from it except a little group of self-serving politicians.

You're forgetting that coloured players doesn't fall into the bracket of Quota players anymore. So the following guys on your list must be removed as they are not ethnic black South Africans:

Beast Mtawarira (He's a foreigner and doesn't fall under the bracket)
Hilton Lobberts
Nizaam Carr
Rudy Paige
Elton Jantjies
Leolin Zas
Courtnall Skosan
Bryan Habana
JP Pietersen
Bjorn Basson
Juan De Jongh
Lionel Mapoe
Cheslin Kolbe

It will be a massive change. There is no way that we would be competitive if they force us to do what they want. At the moment only Trevor Nyakane, Teboho Mohoje and Siya Kolisi are current Springboks with the Ethnic Black tag.

You're 100% correct. And those self-serving politicians are unfortunately the majority party in the Parliament and keeps getting the votes in their favour as they hold 66% of the votes.

But with that said, after the latest revelations, We suspect the upcoming municipal elections to change this and hopefully we'll get better ministers and decisionmakers in the picture.

They aren't out of the picture, but only 50% of the african part of the team can be made up of players that you referenced. See page 4 of this document:

Any idea how quota policies are viewed amongst players, black and white? I imagine very few make their views public (with good reason) but there must be some rumour / leaks to the media etc. Are there ever reports of tension between pro-quota and anti-quota players or anything like that?

Its municipal election time in South Africa so the ministers did what they did best and used something called class and identity politics to garner more votes.

If a mostly black Springbok team were to be chosen for the Ireland test it would look like this. Remember its not JUST about transformation of previously disadvantaged people. So the government prefers black Africans, they dont like to count the coloured ( mixed race for people from other countries) or Indian players.

In this list i will note their pecking order at club level. Please correct me if im wrong

1 Beast (30) - First team starter (Sharks)
2 Mbonambi (25)/Ntubeni (25) - both competing for first team spot at Stormers
3 Nyakane (26) - First team starter (Bulls)
4 Giant Mtyande (30) - Does not make the sharks matchday squad of 23. Hyron Andrews is not a black African so not included in the list
5 Oupa Mohoje (25) First team starter ( cheetahs)
6 Kolisi (24) -Kolisi (very good player) and Notshe usualy rotates in the Stormers team
7 Notshe (22)
8 Carr (25) - First team starter (stormers). He is not a black african so should not count towards the governments transformation policy as much as someone like Kolisi
9 Paige (26)First team starter (Bulls)
10 Jantjies (25) First team starter ( Lions)
11 Sergeal Pietersen (21) - First team starter (cheetahs)
12 Lionel Mapoe (27) or Juan De Jongh (28). this is a tough one but both regularly feature for their teams. Lions and Stormers respectively
13 JP Pietersen (29) First team starter (Sharks)
14 Mvovo (29)- First team starter (Sharks)
15 Kolbe (22) - First team starter (Stormers)

Chiliboy Ralepelle is another I could include but IMO he never fulfilled his potential, Ashley Johnson also was a player I loved watching. Ndugnane had a pretty impressive game against my Highlanders just past week.

Terrible news. We shouldn't have a quota system after so many years :/ It should be based on merit.

Again I am an outsider but think like many others players should be chosen on merit not skin colour. In the republic I'd be considered a "coloured" person lol which is just ridiculous as we all have colour at the end of the day. BUT, it would be interesting to know if anything meaningful is being done to sell the sport to the Black people of South Africa and get them involved in meaningful ways. I presume corruption and problems at various levels prevent this from happening, so a very ad hoc and ham fisted approach (quota) is needed. Guys like Solly Tyibilika (RIP) are thus pawns in their system, and therefore have to bear the brunt of the media, fans, and teammates alike who see their selections as unwarranted. I am a Samoan New Zealander, so I know that infighting and trouble within my national rugby union can shoot (one of) my national team's performances and long term success in the foot.

So who are favorites to hold the 2023 RWC now?

If we are properly ruled out (this guy has a tendency to change his mind), then I really hope it's Italy. They really need some kinda boost in rugby interest in the country to improve that team.
