London Scottish today announce that Simon Amor will be stepping down as Director of Rugby at the Club.
It follows his decision to accept the position as England Sevens Head Coach.Simon will continue in his current role at the Club with an official start date at the RFU to be confirmed shortly.
London Scottish chairman Sir David Reid said: "The Board has been aware for a number of weeks that the RFU were seeking to appoint a new Head Coach of the England Sevens team and we are not surprised they have chosen Simon as that person.
"His pedigree as a player in the shortened format of the game is second to none and whilst the timing of this announcement is unfortunate with the season due to start on Saturday, we fully understand Simon's desire to take up this new challenge. The Club will immediately review all our internal and external options regarding the coaching set-up with a view to reaching an early decision."
Club chief executive Kenny Baillie said: "Since joining London Scottish as a player and assistant coach in 2008, Simon has been a great servant, leading the Club to promotion into the Championship as Head Coach in 2011.
"We are extremely grateful for all his efforts and wish him every success in his new role. At the moment the Club is in close contact with the RFU and an official date of Simon's departure will be confirmed in due course."
He continued: "London Scottish look forward to the start of the Greene King IPA Championship this weekend with great confidence after an encouraging pre-season campaign. In James Buckland (forwards and defence coach), Tim Harper (Head of Strength and Conditioning) and Serge Betsen (assistant coach) we have a fine set of coaches who have all worked closely with Simon since they joined the club."
Simon Amor said: "I have enjoyed my time at London Scottish immensely and it's with great sadness that I will be leaving the Club. The opportunity to take over as England Sevens Head Coach, however, was too good to turn down and I'm grateful for the support I have received from London Scottish since being approached by the RFU."
He added: "The Club's progress since I took over as Head Coach in 2010 has been tremendous. This current London Scottish squad is the strongest I have ever worked with and much of this is down to the efforts of James, Tim and Serge."
