Shaun Tait has walked away from cricket indefinitely, citing physical and emotional exhaustion. Cricket Australia announced that Tait would be rested from cricket at all levels while he undergoes a program to help him recuperate, and the length of that program would be dependent on his progress.

Only 24, what a shame. Here's hoping to a full recovery as I believed he was the future of the Aussie pace attack who would have surely done great things despite his erratic action. Such a great player yet a great tragedy.

Agreed, we like having a chance to challenge Australia, but not with them losing talent like this.

Hopefully he'll need a good winter off and he'll fight back.

I was looking forward to him replacing either Clark or Johnson in the 1 day team (or even Hogg?). At one day level Tait is an intimidation machine. Certainly the future of our pace attack.

Goodluck to him, hopefully he can return for next summer.

I hope he gets the rest he needs to fix himself mentally and physically. He could be one of the best players South Australia has ever produced. :)

Good Luck Shaun and i hope to see you back.

Well for both NZ and AUS it's been a bad week. We have lost probably the best bowler we've ever had since Paddles in Shane Bond. Such a blow, just one look at his records and you could almost mistake his average (19.32) for Joel Garner's. The only real threat we had in our attack anyway. Now, we have no one at all to count on.

I sincerely hope that Tait doesn't pull a Marcus Trescothick.

Initially, it is of some concern that Tait has had to take a break like this in such circumstances but it does wear very thin when they attempt a comeback, only to run away in a similar style.

I think its credit for Tait for at least waiting for a home test series and consulting with everyone before ruling himself out. Tresco didn't exactly win favours by coming all the way over first to India and jacking it in to go home and then repeating exactly the same thing in Australia.
