[RWC2023] South Africa vs Scotland (10/09/2023)

OK. So it's not decided yet who wears what jersey when etc? When is this coin flip?

Just trying to figure out what's going on because I heard people complain but can't find anything definitive online.
As I understand it, it is the "home" team, in this case South Africa, who change.

Although I have never known SA and Scotland playing in "away" strips when playing each other.

For that matter I was puzzled that Roumania played in white and not their normal yellow

Yesterday they mentioned a coin toss that decided France had to change

Yeah, the coin toss to decide who the "home" team is - change shirts, home changing room, left of the score board, etc.

Dunno when the toss is made though, but suspect they're all done pre -tournament

A person with deutan color vision deficiency may experience confusions between colors such as green and yellow, or blue and purple. Another common symptom is that green traffic signals appear to be a very pale green or sometimes white.

Explains the green/yellow issue

Doesn't mean anything unless you know where those matches were played or who was the designated home team

I was at the 1999 RWC Sco V SA. Both wore their normal colours with no issues. What sticks in my memory was no-one could see the ref and he changed his shirt to bright orange at half time

Sorry, I thought you meant you don't remember either playing in away kits when facing each other with this:

Fair enough you are right. Apologies

Just checked and those two pics showing the "home" side in their alternate

As you'd expect, it's a rugby tradition (dropped by the professional clubs)

Means that touring teams only have to worry about 1 set of kit, whilst the home team have both options (and better laundry) available to them.

You'd expect pro teams to like it. Show off second shirt in front of fans and sell more shirts.

The pro clubs go with home and away kits, so they always change in the road :(
Done purely for exposure and sales, of course

Interestingly enough, this was the case in the Netherlands in football when we were kids. More born out of necessity than anything else. But it was still nice to always wear your team's actual colours while traveling for games.

Yeah we always has a bag of white shirts with numbers on the back if we ever faced another red team.

I played for a team called RVC, in my hometown Rijswijk. They no longer exist but I remember that our kits were red-black striped shirts and black shorts, essentially mimicking the legendary AC Milan kit from the late 80s.

Our "away kit" for some reason was green. So one year, we played a team called Velo, who play in red-green striped jerseys. Both our kits clashed with theirs, so we played the game with our shirts inside out.

Okay I've mentally prepared myself… let's get this over with… the butchering of our anthem I mean of course, then the fun begins!

Lol nice Scottish flag there in the anthem
