[RWC2019][Pool A] Round 2 - Japan vs. Ireland (28/09/2019)

Kicking that was an aggressively stupid decision from Tamura.

Edit: wasnt even Tamura, it was the flanker. What on earth was he thinking?

Shouldn't of kicked that away.

Japan have got to be more deserving of a 6 Nations/Rugby Championship place than Argentina or Italy currently?

Hell Scotland are probably ******** their pants right now.

Phew...didn't expect it to be this close at half time. If Japan can score early in the second half then we could have a close game. However I expect Ireland to pull away in the second half.

Japan played really well, but i think Ireland will be too good in the second half.

We started very strongly there but the tempo that Japan couldn't live with fell off dramatically after the second try. A bit worried about the second half with Gardner letting the crowd get to him a bit already but if the bench is used well we should get home.

Highly enjoyable half! My thoughts:

Ireland looked on it early, accurate, clear game plan and good execution. Organised in defence and attack, defended excellently against a very good attack. But then for me Carty + Murray didn't control the game like they should, and Ireland kind of let the advantage go.

Japan have been extremely impressive mentally. 12-0 down to a Tier 1 nation, but totally unphased and calmly played their way back into it. Accurate, fast attack, their running game is genuinely Tier 1 standard.

Main criticism for me is they're defending very narrow - easily exploited with a couple of first phase wide strike moves and of course the crosskicks. Having said that, they haven't really been outmuscled so fair play. On attack, they need more dimensions, they need a kicking game to make the defence think more. That 9 encapsulates the problem, superb distribution but has only boxkicked once.

Ringpiece is quality BTW. I'm not just saying that because I'm whoring for Irish likes, but I expect some nonetheless.

Ireland looks weak.

Not finals quality.

Can't wait to hear the referee excuses from cry baby Ireland fans when Ireland lose this game.

Will be epic.
