RWC to be expanded to 24 teams

As every business, the need to show a growth is a must. In the case of a RWC, I could say that even if the main 10 unions bring the biggest cut of the cake, the revenue will be stuck at some point, so the only way to improve is to bring new markets even if they are not yet so competitive on the field as we would like to.

Perhaps at RWC63 we will see a 32 unions tournament... just for the cash and not for the development of the sport.

Why wouldn't you want to watch your county lose by 70 points? I mean Scotland fans might be used to that but not us England fans.
Wouldn't know about Scotland fans. Again it's the experience. The likes of Uruguay and Portugal going out to the world cup and playing the great teams. Results aren't everything

Would still care more about a guy who's going out every week in his country trying to grow the game.
I would say though that this is the absolute limit of teams. With the technicalities of rugby union, the gap between professional, and potentially amateur (or minimal semi pro) it will become dangerous. This is where the game needs the casual viewer (especially children) who may aspire to play or pay to watch the game.

That is a fair point. Fully pro guys smashing into semi pro guys could cause a problem.

Laudable etc but the last thing the comp needs is more thrashings. Going that far down you've also probably got some proper player welfare issues of pros v semi pros / amateurs etc.

Game's just not really widespread enough to expand the main comp with any credibility. The drop off's huge.

To retain quality but yet incentivise I'd actually reduce it to 16 (4 pools of 4) and then perhaps have a secondary comp running alongside - maybe 2 pools of 4 or 6 depending on what the strength in depth is really like. I think there'd be more kudos and long term benefit from being in the mix for that than taking a kicking from Scotland's second string. Finalists to be guaranteed a RWC slot next time provided their world ranking's over a certain level.
As long as qualification is made tougher for T1 nations.
The current finish 3rd an auto qualify is too many.
Maybe just 1/4 finalists auto qualify, with rest using AI to qualify.

Shouldn't reply to comments I make then ********

In other points can be respected, but in this. Im from a country where rugby is not popular, and I like a lot to watch rugby. Therefore more teams, more likely to be in World Cup, and more likely to play against another weak team that allow to compete to win.

I dont understand this..."Im an expert of rugby, I prefer less people wathc it".

It is as simple as it.

It would be better served having a lower competition at the same time with the non qualifiers. At least the games would be worth watching and respectable.

There's always several ways to skin a cat.
