Both meaningless

When's the last time you beat us in the world cup?
Never?
Gutted.

We've rarely played you and are unlikely to again in this world cup - different pools and knockout sides, plus u will bomb out in the group stage this time. . If we do, we'll kick some Samoan ass! :)

EDIT: yeah I've noticed it's always 'meaningless' every time we beat you...

So, in the last 7 of 10 competitive games, it was meaningless - the last 3 6n in a row England beatien - meaningless.

I think it's obvious why some us cannot respect you ever, you are not capable of respect and therefor should never receive it.

Interesting statstics you've got there. Makes Wales' underachieving seem OK, when you think about it.

Question: I've heard that 60% of males in Tonga are registered players. Any truth in this?

Nah, 6891 male players and about 50,000 men in the country. That said however, most of them play without registering officially with the IRB.
The interesting statistic is that there are 7000 odd players and only 8 registered referees in the country.

Player numbers unfortunately dont add up to results.

In SA we have the numbers and although we are a 3rd world country there is enough interest and thus money so finances aren't such a major hindrance as

1 Politics - Unfortunately SA's race politics do hamper the competitiveness of our sports in general. Though there isn't official quota's in top level rugby (test/provincial) a lot of pressure does get put on the selectors of these teams and there are in fact quotas in junior level teams. This not only means our teams are not necessarily (definately) picked on merrit but has a negative effect on morale/cohesion which is a big part of rugby; being a tight team sport and all. Political appointments at a coaching/admin staff level has also cost SA rugby over the years; probably the most WRT the appointment of PdV as national coach most recently.

2 Structures - our club games (with by far the most amount of players) are woefully inadequately attended/covered by media and a lot of talent gets lost with players not making academies/provincial junior sides (where the S15 franchises and provinces do their shopping) slipping off of the radar. Our schools games are well attended but from there on there is a bit of a bottle neck where talented players that are undoubtably talented but maybe a tad behind ITO development (skill/size or whatever) or hadn't had the opportunities others had get left behind and enter SA rugby limbo. Maybe this is an offspin of the fact that we simply couldn't feasibly accomodate more players (IE a reach of critical mass of sorts). I also think our coaching and structures for juniors is inferior to those in Eng and NZ; we'd do well to reconsider.

7 out of 10 of those matches were meaningless - only three of them counted, and coincidently the three that counted England won

Of course.
& race itself does play a roll. We can ignore it, but Bohr SA players and Maori players are always going to be bigger than say Japanese players. So, the All Blacks should always have high caliber players.

HAHA, I prefer you when you're deliberately annoying!! :)

edit: forgot to merge sorry

damn wish i got some popcorn before i started reading this thread!

actually it's about 6 % - 60% lol hahaha
Just looked it up. According to Rugby World's World Cup guide-

Population- 12,000
Registered players- 6891
Senior Male Players- 3,049
Referees- 8

I make that just over 50%, so 60% isn't that far off. I wouldn't be suprised if there's a mistake somewhere, though, because it seems absurd.

And those referees must be busy!

No, man. Where did you get that number from? :)
There's supposed to be about 100,000 people in Tonga with 6,891 registered players, so that should be about 50,000 males or 14% or so of all males being a registered player. Still really high though. For 60%, you wouldn't be able to school as all the teachers would be playing rugby the whole time.

Ranger might be right about there being loads more unregistered players though, and 8 referees is just official too, probably there's more unoffically

Are you 12.

Interesting, I would be interested in figures from Canada, US, Aggies, and some of the smalled, lower ranked nations (yes I am aware The Pumas are not a lower ranked nation)
I added some stats and links for Arg. on the main page.

whatever, those stats are bullshit. No way do England have that many more players than France... it must be distorted by including all the people at schools that offer rugby, even if they're **** and don't play.

Or calculon made them up.

Can't believe I'm responding to a topic made up by a troll to try and prove a point. Must be difficult coming from a country that's got no chance of winning any world ***les in any team sport (international rules doesn't count).

Tad harsh....and to be fair it's actually wonderful here...
