Rugby '15 announced

It's not like rugby would be an easy game to create, if you think about it. Scrums, lineouts, tackling, defensive patters, rucks, passing, kicking, lines and angles, players, stadiums, graphics, licenses, fans plus more. I think these have had a massive effect in why companies haven't really had a crack.

Has anyone heard anything that was meant to be announced by the other company? They said something big was coming...and...nothing

I am 99.9% sure there is a bigger fan base in rugby than ice hockey. so with all the excuses saying theres no market for a rugby game that's bull. Most games have just tried to cut corners ethier decent gameplay crap graphics or decent graphics crap game play. and wonder why no ones buying there games. this game will be on my Christmas list though..

Rugby is a bigger sport in that it has a presence in more markets, but combined those markets are still a fraction the size of the North American market, so no, in terms of the sheer demand for sport by consumers Hockey is actually bigger.

Sorry mate, I know rugby "feels big" - what with the World Cup and all - but look at it objectively: who plays rugby seriously? The UK, France and the 3 countries in the Southern Hemisphere. Now, in the UK and Ireland - region with about 60 million people - Rugby is still WAY behind soccer (and competes with Gaelic Football and Hurling in Ireland), and is in fact stigmatised in England to a certain degree for being a private school game, which limits its reach. In France again, the country is obsessed with Soccer, and whilst Rugby thrives in the South, it is the north where all the people are, and for the most part Rugby is second fiddle up there. Moving onto South Africa - rugby remains a sport for the whites and now the economically successful blacks. This represents about 10% the country's roughly 50 million people. Now look at Australia - a country of 20 million people. Where does Rugby sit here? Currently it's miles behind AFL and Rugby League in terms of both player numbers, public interest and therefore economic weight. In fact it's worth has even dropped below soccer. All in all I'd estimate the rugby "market" in Australia would probably only be about 5-10% of the overall population at best.

There's your problem right there. Is the sport international? Sure. But does it hold a dominant position in any major market? No. It's on the periphery of all but NZ. The fact is, if Rugby were the number 1 sport across all 3 sanzar countries plus the UK, then the economic weight would be massive, but it's not even close to that, and that's why there isn't strong enough demand to justify a big budget sports game.

It would probably be very close.

Ice Hockey has an extremely high to moderate presence in all the following countries....

Canada, Finland, Latvia, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Belarus, Germany, Norway, United States(skewed to the more Northern states, though has a presence in the South as well, plus the sheer size of the North American market is bigger than the 6N and TRC countries combined).

It's also a decent niche sport in, Austria, Denmark, Slovenia, France, Kazakhstan and Italy.

It's also simpler to sort out the licensing of Ice Hockey games, since there are two leagues that are vastly superior to the rest of the domestic competitions, the NHL and to a lesser extent KHL are where the vast majority of most talented players are if you have one or both of these licenses you have a major market to sell your game to.

Rugby licensing you have multiple leagues of decent standard plus the pan continental competitions.....Super Rugby, Top 14, Aviva Premiership, Pro 12, Heineken Cup, and almost certainly ITM Cup and Currie Cup are all worthwhile competitions that a game would want to get licenses for, and that dosen't even cover the multitude of International licenses or 2nd tier pro leagues. It's a legal and logistical nightmare herding all these cats together.

I am about as optimistic as there is , when comes to rugby gaming. Although the little spin animation at end of the video look fairly decent, the rucking animation mid video looks horrible , static, slow, and three players joining the ruck every time. The ruck is the heart of rugby game, it dictates pace and strategy, having a three man animation added to the ruck every time is an insult to our rugby knowledge. RC2 is far from perfect, but the rucking by the end of the last patch is by far the best rucking of any rugby game to date. The problem is many people don't understand it, always thinking they got to mash on buttons to win the ruck. People complained there were no quick balls in RC2 , I have plenty of quick balls. If you press the join button more then two times, you will not get quick balls!!! There all kinds of strategies in RC2 rucking when the proper game sliders are in place favoring the offensive team. It is the only Rugby game with an actual pilfer animation. Sorry for the RC2 rant, but I don't know how some people don't realize how good that rucking system is. In saying this, I would like to have seen a rucking system like this added to a new Rugby game, only modified with more rucking infringements and some tweaks here and there. To bad Sidhe is not making another Rugby game, they were on the right track.

Cheers and salud

They did say there would be announcments at the start of this week. Only reason i can think this didnt happen is because of other big video game releases ie destiny. But if that is their reasoning then we wont see anything soon as the next couple of months is packed full of big releases

I share your disapointment that there wont be a RC3. I also agree with your comments about the rucking system. Once you have figured out how it works it is by far the best rucking system ive come across in a rugby game. Love being able to pilfer as well as being able to hold on to the ball for that split second while waiting for support to arrive.

Yes, as, with the correct sliders, the only thing I think that is missing from RC 2 rucks is proper infringements for both AI and user, and fixing the bug were sometimes a player just stands by and doesn't join regardless of which bind you do, (happens rarely with correct slider settings). I bet many people don't even know they can hold on for a split second to avoid the pilfer, it's all in the timing and the timing feels just right.

cheers and Salud

this game still exist?
haha! the uk cover will be released soon! Pete garcin the chief executive of hb studios said they r working really hard to get the game over the finish line so its nearly finished then we should see loads more news and vids etc. also rugby 15 twitter page @rugbythegame followed carter, dagg, parisse , north and so other sh players(wasnt including them 2 nh players:) ) maybe that hints for all blacks team??

Rugby 15 talk ****, they have done no publicity for this and all the game info so far has been below par.

I would not be surprised if this game was the same as all the others. Rubbish by anyone's standards.

If the marketing department did their job we wouldn't be talking about this ****e looking game.

Its the internet and a video game. Look at the youtube comments section on any game related video just to see the rage

Much like the daft "console wars":

PS4/XBONE 4 LYFFFF.

The fact that people argue over stuff like that just makes you facepalm...

And then you have the pitched battle (of saddos) who rage against if you buy COD and not Battlefeild or vice versa.
