This photo of the CSM Bucharest squad ahead of their first home match against U Cluj this weekend includes Petru Tamba, Otar Turashvili and Vlad Badalicescu. CSM now has a huge squad, too bad many talented players won't get much gametime.

CSM will play their first home match on Arcul de Triumf, we'll see if all their games will be hosted there.

Great result for Cluj but CSM changed most of their starters from the previous match. Kicking was again a problem, Ralulu missed a few easy shots while Ignea converted a crazy 60m penalty that won Cluj the match eventually.

Great debut for Steaua's 19 year old winger Alex Porojan, who scored two tries in his first Superliga match.

In other news, here's one of the three tries not given to Romania in the 1981 test match in Bucharest vs the All Blacks. Apparently the Scottish referee told Romanian officials after the match that he didn't want his name to be linked to a historical upset.

Again surprising results in the Super Liga

I watched the second half of Timisoara-CSM and enjoyed the game despite the result.
Taavili from CSM is a very powerfull player!
At Timisoara, I liked Fonovai, fast and powerfull, Burcea and his leadership, and fijian prop Saulo, he could play in a big championship IMO

This is a crazy season of the Superliga! Steaua are the unlikely leaders. CSM might eventually become a strong team but they could implode completely as well.

In the meantime, the rugby community in Constanta plans to restart the sport in the city:
- amateur rugby team Rechinii (The Sharks, they play in the national amateur 10s league) want to enter the third division
- youth clubs Cleopatra and Tomitanii also plan to enter the third division with a combined senior squad

Apparently the Arcul the Triumf Stadium will be expanded to about 15000 seats. The FRR has managed to include it in the planning for Euro 2020 competition (football), when it will be used as a training stadium for the football teams then revert to a rugby-only stadium. Also part of the Euro 2020 preparations, the old Regie Stadium (about 10000 seats) could be renovated and become a mixed football-rugby arena afterwards.

After Baia Mare lost the first match against Enisey-STM (20-30) last week, the second match might not be played at all (it was scheduled for May 2). The Russians have only announced the location of the match (Sochi) on April 21 (they were supposed to do so well in advance of the first match that was played on April 18). With the travel location unknown, Baia Mare officials were unable to apply for Russian visas for the players until then. The Russian embassy in Bucharest told them the visas will be issued only on April 30, just 3 days before the match scheduled on May 2. Without the visas and not knowing if all the players will get one, Baia Mare can't buy the plane tickets and apparently they are sold out already since there are only two Bucharest-Sochi flights, connecting in either Moscow or Istanbul. The club has asked for the match to be postponed but the organisers have refused the request. If Baia Mare can't find another flight option in those 3 days remaining before the match, it will not be played.

According to Baia Mare, the match referees had to be changed as well, since the Welsh brigade initially delegated was denied visas by Russia.

Dragos03, any news about Andrei Ilie, Ionel Cazan and few other former Farul players?
And the american who signed last year for CSM in order to play for Romania 7's (I can't remember his name) still in Romania?

I think Andrei Ilie has signed with Dinamo but didn't play for them yet (might be injured). No news on Cazan, maybe he quit rugby since he had a series of bad injuries lately. Another decent ex-Farul player who seems to be without a club is tighthead Florin Sasu. I suspect some of the fringe former players of Farul could play for Callatis Mangalia in the 3rd division this season.

The Romanian-American at CSM (John Varvara) did play for Romania 7s in some minor tournaments but did not impress. He's back in the USA now.

Congratulations to the Russian team for the qualification. If they are as good as you claim, I wonder why they still needed the dirty visa tricks though, maybe this is just the Russian way to do things. Good luck trying that in the pool stages. As for "not inviting Russia to the Nations Cup", you're wrong once more. The teams are invited by World Rugby, not by Romania.
