Not once have they stated that they have exclusive rights.

A cool feature of the game, though hard to create, would be to have the weight of the boots affect the player speed. That would make the game extremely realistic, but not sure how challenging that would be for programmers

Boot weight has very very little control over player speed though,
I read a review once where the reviewer ran sprints in Nike Mercurials (some of the lightest around) and some in big heavy leather boots and the difference was so minute it made basically no difference)

Would love This game to have the Puma V1.10 Boots...having some licensed boots in this game will make it a lot more realistic and for me a better experience; i hate looking at those crappy looking boots from 08'...siff!

I think it is important to have real boots from Nike, Adidas, Puma etc. i think it adds an extra touch of realism to the game, although some people may not agree. Here is a list of some boots with a couple of players names who wear them:

Adidas Predator X (James Hook)

Adidas Predator RX (Dan Carter, Ronan O`gara, Johnny Wilkinson, Stephen Jones)

Adidas adiZero RS7 (Lee Byrne, Maa Nonu, Keith Earls)

Adidas adiPure R15 (first two pictures) Adidas adiPure Flanker (worn by various forwards)

Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly ii (Tom Varndell)

Nike laser iii (Toby Flood)

Nike CTR360 Maestri ii (Chris Ashton, Ben Foden)

Nike Tiempo Legend iii (I think Steffon Armitage wears them)

Puma V1.10 (Shane Williams, Shontayne Hape, Jamie Heaslip)

Puma Powercat 1.10 (Jimmy Gopperth only person i could think of off the top of my head)

Under Armour Dominate(Jamie Roberts, Mike Tindall)

Sorry for the lack of knowledge of what boots Southern hemisphere players wear but i hope hb studios take a look at this. Feel free to add more boots to list or more players names to the boots they wear.

You can keep your synthetic rubbish, Umbro Specialis all the way for Firm Ground dominance for 6 thru 15.

Umbro make Soccer boots. And only Soccer boots.

In fact, Umbro was bought by Nike to be their Elite soccer branding.

You're allowed to wear soccer boots for a rugby match. I've worn Umbros for years. Rugby specific boots are only required for the pack in my opinion.

You must be a winger or run like a girl from rucks then. Studs F*cking hurt if you're wearing soccer boots and bob the fat prop stands on you!

Should not be on this forum if you don't know that you can use soccer/football boots for rugby....Boots are Boots...u choose the ones that best suit your position and work best in those specific weather and pitch conditions. Out of tight 5, generally most of the boots the guys wear were designed for football, but work perfectly well for rugby too (But obviously sponsored players get theirs made to what they specifically require eventhough they(Puma,Adidas, etc) mostly make football boots). I have had my Nike Mercurials for 3 years...Not as good as most Puma boots if your playing wing; Puma's...well most of them are nice and light, and don't rip your feet to shreds if you like to step often. Nike's just never break...they last forever; break your feet before they break, HA.
A lot of the SA locks are playing with Puma boots...i think they do have a range for Rugby...Matfield, Bekker, Bakkies, etc. All wearing Puma...Puma make the best looking boots, not too flash, but rather looks Classy and smooth;)...now that i think about it, i remeber Beast also wearing some shweet white Puma boots...there must be a rugby range or some Puma's with some decent long-ish studs that can assist the tight 5 in the scrum.

LOL...not quite. I prefer Umbros Specialis because they are some of the lightest , most versatile and most comfortable boots on the planet for the price. As I said before, Specialis work wonders on firm ground for loosies and the backline.

In all fairness while I don't think variations in boots is a necessity, it would be quite nice. Saw the Crusaders v Sharks game at Twickenham, every single back in the Crusaders has different coloured boots, completely went over my head until I saw it in person.

Have to disagree about Nike Mercurials....I used to get given them when i was younger, and they ALWAYS broke after about 6 games, and they were the superflys not the cheap ones!

Get a big dirty pair of canteburies ....do you for years and wont feel "bob the fat prop through them" :p

I have those orange ones...they came out like 3-4 years ago and they are still as hard as a brick and it was the expensive one with the fibreglass/Carbon fibre stuff round the back. Guess it depends which ones.

the thing is getting the permissions from companys such as kooga nd canterbury who are the biggest makers of rugby equipment other wise big prop forwards who normally have specilist rugby boots would be wearing addidas boots. but as some people may hav noticed some back players do wear football boots so i suppose that you wouldnt need a large ammount of permission if you wer only getting the boots made for the forwards in the game but i woulndt want to the the forwards wearing the same boots i would want to see a selection.
