for those who dont know, real groovy is a local music point. specialising in 2nd hand goods, clothing, vinal, tapes, music, games, basically the whole shabang. concerts, music gear, badges.... EVERYTHING. it has 4 stores nation wide, the biggest in auckland, which is at least 5x as big as the wellington one. and just recently they have gone into recevership.

now RG, and there aussie competitiors on queen st, were going well, as apposed to other music retailers because of the vast amount of non top40 music (which everyone downloads anyway) they had rare music, live music etc and you did go there for the experiance. not for buying the latest justin timberlake cd... you went there for a original led zep 4 vinal. you didnt go there to buy the latest FOB cd, you went there to get a live album by the clash, etc...

however they (i think) had a order that went wrong for overseas, or a investor went broke etc. something. and now have gone into recivership. what im really dissapointed (other than losing my 2nd home) is that in auckland, they had bands play there. mostly local ones. now how a record compnay, who is losing money through downloads, like RG, can sit there and do nothing, i will never know. RG helped out their signed bands, and promoted their gigs, sold their tickets, and they do nothing. its really quite sad. then youve got the nz music commision, one of the 6 lotto winners, its a joke.

so all we can do is join the facebook, Save Real Groovy Club. so far 1500 people have joined, which really, is a hell of a lot.

It's unfortunate how online music has affected music stores like RG because I use to like travelling out of town just to buy a cd or cassette it use to be a buzz but because you can just download music it's lost its novelty. Over the years a few of the music stores have closed due to lack of sales places like Tower Music. The only place you find most albums is at a Warehouse store these days.

I hope RG pick themselves back up because I use to go there to grab my vinyls and I'd always be greeted with a smile and usually got some deals.

exactly. when i download music, i never apreceate it as much as buying it, hard copy. and vinals - there priceless really. they are so much fun to listen to. i could spend a day listening to vinals, but not mp3's.

what people dont realise is that once digital format really takes over, music is going to go downhill. people will be downloading singles - not albums. name me one legendary band that has made its mark on singles, as apposed to albums. you have pink floyd with the wall and dark side of the moon, metallica with ride the lightning and master of puppets. rolling stones and sticky fingers, beatles and sgt peppers. good bands make albums. the moment that bands only produce singles is a sad sad day. we will get more one hit wonders than ever before. and it will be horrible.

and the thing is, how many best of's are better than a bands best cd - or are even their best of? its not about puting 8 or so songs togeather and going, ALBUM! its about creating a album. there are some really good songs which havent ever made it onto a ablum and are lost in a album like SOAD's steal this album, or pearl jams lost dogs.

and again, i go to RG for the atmosphere. not just to buy music, although i almost always do.

so sambad, i guess you will be happy that RG in wellington is staying around then? Its been bought out by the manager or some such of the store.

good stuff if you go there i guess, i dont like businesses going into receivership, espeically if they give out a good service like RG does.

I dont go their very often, and i never buy anything from there. No reason really, music isnt really on the top of my list of things i enjoy :)
