Premiership Rugby is launching a new Friday evening Summer 7s series, to take place in July and August. The innovative tournament, which will involve all 12 Premiership Rugby clubs, is designed to attract a new audience to the game and create a thrilling new opportunity for existing rugby fans to watch their favourite clubs play during the summer.
The 12 Premiership Rugby clubs will be divided into three groups for the tournament, with the winner and runner up of each regional event going through to the Final.

There will be six games each evening, with each match consisting of two 7 minute halves with a 2 minute break at half time.

Games will start at 7.30pm and finish by 10pm and will include music and entertainment making each event an exciting summer evening out for families.

Sounds pretty cool, hopefully they put highlights on the website or something

Being shown on ESPN. It was in my newsletter.

(I probably should've said that, too. *headdesk*)

Right, so all the London teams are going to Harlequins, all the northern and Leicester go to Welford Road and everyone else goes to Northampton?

Just so you know, they have not re-branded the Middlesex 7s. These events are new, while the Middlesex 7s is still at twickenham in August. Think they have shaken it up a little and have 8 Premiership sides and England as well as others. see www.middlesex7s.com

Got kmy ticket for FG the other day (£10 and f-all else to do on a friday), although i doubt very much I'd be lkely to go to the final in Bath for a 7s series.

Quins, Irish, Wasps, and Sarries have announced their squads. Names that jumped out at me: Noah Cato, Ryan Lamb, and a third Armatige brother.

is this on Television?
According to the England coach, Ben Ryan:
With the New Delhi Commonwealth Games Sevens slated for October and England still in pursuit of that elusive gold medal, the series provides ample opportunity for players to influence the selection of England coach Ben Ryan, who will soon be turning his attention to preparations for the Olympic games in 2016.

If England have any hope of winning the Commonwealth games, or finish like we did last time, they need that backing and financial support.

I've been anxious about this tournament as England has one of the best platforms to create a strong national 7's team. However, it is England, and they notoriously ignore good platforms and opportunity.

Got a copy of round 1 of this series. That Simon Easterby is one lucky *******:

Anyway, exciting stuff with this tourney. Glad to see at least one country taking the 7's Olympics seriously. Magners League needs to copy this!!!

It's what they do best; Every gimmick that the Priemership teams do, the Celtic lot copy around 5 years later...

Sorry last time I checked Wales were currently 7's World Champions ...

Thinking about it, Sale should do pretty well in their group, most of the signings they've made are 7s players
