Pre-season Thread

Only managed to watch the last 15 minutes of this, and it's been a farce.
Bath prevail at Ravehill 14-26.

Didn't think the match was too bad, was flicking between it and the Perpignan game,
Thought Ulster were going to win after their early try

Saw the first and final 20 minutes. Bath seemed fairly impressive. So Ulster won't have a senior-level scrum half for the Ospreys game if Marshall doesn't recover quickly?

Leicester beat Nottingham 54-7. Robinson came on in the second half and got a hat-trick.

Looking forward to the Munster and Leinster games.

Nope. Don't know how serious the injury was though and he's got all of pre-season, so fingers crossed.

Not a bad game, disrupted by the subs. Thought an understrength Ulster did well against Bath until their legs tired, although they really didn't work well as a team, while I was impressed/mildly worried by some of Bath's offloading.

Ospreys beat Leeds 28-31 at Headingly this afternoon with a fairly inexperienced side out. Tries from James King, Richard Fussell and Matthew Dwyer saw us come from 22-9 down to clinch a hard-fought win.

Gareth Owen was fantastic at centre. Richard Fussell played really well too, looked dangerous every time he got the ball. Prydie was quite good, but seemed to ehsitate whenever picking up a bouncing ball, waiting for it to bounce two, three times- A bit odd, consdering most of the time he let the chasers get to him before picking it up, although he does seem to have a massive boot, which is always useful.

Eli Walker, on the other hand, looked far to lightweight and fell off a lot of takes, and only made one break, plus he knocked the ball on over the try-line early on. Nutbrown was Nutbrown, Flannagan was making good decissions, but then chucking wild passes, either forward or unaccurate, and there where in general a lot of handling errors. The backrow looked out of their depth for much of the game, and the lineout started woefully, but got better as the game went on.

The best bit of the afternoon was meeting the non-playing members of the squad at half-time. I froze infront of Tommy Bowe, and when he asked me how I was I just mumbled. They where all very friendsly and open to fans, with the exception of Dan Biggar, who was sat with Andrew Bishop and just rolled his eyes before signing anything. Anyway, Jerry seems like a card.

Good luck mate!

Glad to hear that Gareth Owen went well, as he's got a good shot at having a run of games at 12 while Hook's out. How did Ben Lewis go at 7? He's really struggling to get anywhere neer the level he was showing before injury a couple of seasons ago which is a real shame, especially when he was showing potential like this:

Ian Evans showing any signs that he may regain some form?

Ian Evans was quite good, about half an hour in he started to take some sort of command in the lineout, and made two or three breaks to boot, including a comedy sidestep and skip against a winger. Ben Lewis took a nasty knock early on, going off then comnig back on. He didn't seem very impressive, although it's harder to tell what's going on at the breakdown from the stands. Leeds seemed to get a lot of turnovers in the first half, although in the last 40 the Ospreys backrow coped far better with the giant Samoan beast they had at 6.

Oh, the other thing I noticed was that the handling was quite poor. There was a lot of knock-ons, and a fair few forward passes at crucial times.

Leeds' discepline was appauling, and something they have to sort out ASAP. It's almost the only reason the Ospreys won the game.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Saracens won 85-10 against Esher, scoring a monster 13 tries in the process

We lost 38-21.

Ollie Hayes with two tries, by the sound of it we played well and were beaten by a side playing competitive rugby longer than us this season so far.

Strettles got four tries in two games, according to Wigglesworth's twitter
