Pat Lam's Post Match Comments on Touch Judge Leighton Hodges

As for the poor standard of elite referees, all I can say is that it has only gotten this bad since Paddy O'Brien lost the top job.

In the mean time, the standard of refereeing at International Sevens has improved dramatically. Guess who's got the top job there folks!!

All those media numpties (and plenty here) who criticised Paddy when he was head honcho of referees, and who celebrated with much hilarity when he got the [strike]chop[/strike] sideways promotion, will now be laughing on the other side of their faces.

I'm guessing the position has a fixed tenure before re-election?

Or are we stuck with Jutge for the forseeable?

Its an executive appointment not an elected position AFAIK. I think we are stuck with him for a while yet.

Jutge is the reason why we have this ridiculous situation with the "man in the air is sacrosanct" ruling that led to the Jared Payne red card and Finn Russell citing.

Lad I saw game last night and well was at Munster game today. Ospreys deserved to win today so I not saying the ref cost us or anything. But my god the standard this weekend in Pro12 has been desperate as in it's been worst I've ever seen.

I'm sure this won't be a surprise but ....

Pat Lam formally charged with misconduct by Pro 12

It will be interesting to see what sort of consequence he will get for this. Can anyone think of any similar examples as my memory is failing me this evening?

Its going to be interesting to see the outcome.

Will the disciplinary body close ranks with the referees, or will there be an investigation into the comments supposedly made at the Sportsground (vs. Edinburgh).

In general, the standard of officiating is poor. But I don't think that is unique to the Pro12, although it may be worse than other leagues.

You get referees that miss loads and blow anything they see (i.e. Clancy), you get referees that see most things and blow anything they see (i.e. Patterson), and you get a referee that sees most things and makes decisions on which materially affect the game (i.e. Owens).

The first type is pretty ****e and beyond hope, the second could become good if they'd a better understanding of the game and the third is what you ideally have.

Steve Diamond and Richard Cockerill had pitchside bans, financial bans and had to attend media courses after making comments about referees. Nothing quite so bad as this, more of a "The referee was s**t." rather than "The referee is a cheat."

Lam must be brain dead. Yes a lot of ref's are crap but its not a easy task. Lam should get a rap on the knuckles. Hensaw was pure class. Until this season I thought he was to raw and lacking in skills and awareness but I was very wrong.

Lam got a fine. No more and well his gripe was more an underlying issue.
