Wales wing Tom Prydie has joined London Wasps on loan until the end of the season.

Andrew Hore is quoted in the article saying that "in the short term the best option for Tom was to be playing regular rugby", well why can't the Ospreys offer that, especially over the course of the 6 nations where Bowe isn't available? I know the Ospreys have quite a few young wings waiting for gametime with Eli Walker, Kristian Phillips and Hanno Dirksen, along with Prydie. But at the same time, why isn't Prydie being developed as a fullback at the region, a position where they lack any genuine player? Fussell and Barry Davies are ok players, both have their strengths and their monumental weaknesses, but I think Prydie could be developed into a world class 15 if given enough opportunity. He's got the complete game for the position afterall!

More short-sightedness from the region.

Read somewhere that his contract starts again with the Ospreys for the 2012-13 season. So presumably he did not have a contract with the Ospreys region for this season.

if he was good enough to play for wales a few years ago why is he struggling now?

Lack of options. In 2010 Halfpenny's form was up and down, Mark Jones was injured, so we had few others. Tom James was also used in that Six Nations tournament.
The Ospreys would rather play favourites and shift Fussell to FB rather than accommodate an actual 15.
I rate him above Fussell, Walker, Dirksen for wing play.

Tom can come to Newport when he is done. We'll find a spot for him.

Warren did mention in an interview earlier this year that they thought Halfpenny's form dropped around 2010 and they brought in other players because of this.

Is it not a case of Gatland getting the young players into the international environment to give them a taste of it so that they know they have the potential to become a seasoned international?

world class 15 is a big call, but I'm sure he could become a better option than we have now

Yeh, I know. But afterall, he showed that he's got the temprament and quality for international rugby, and that was at the tender age of 17. For some reason the Ospreys have been unwilling to give him any real chances, although his injury didn't help.

Perhaps his inclusion in the squad, but Prydie was played due to lack of options, especially on the subsequent New Zealand tour.

A major reason why he seems to have stagnated in development ...

Wales wing Tom Prydie ready for playing return

He was pretty good for Wales 7s after his return. Some rumours have emerged that his Ospreys contract was put on sabbatical for this season in case his injury took longer to heal / recover. The boy has potential and did ok to be fair for Wales when he played.

I think the Ospreys have done the right thing with Prydie this year. As someone mentioned he had a major injury, the Ospreys had no need to rush him back and have let him find his feet in club rugby and 7's.
Although i think Eli Walker is the worst out of all the Ospreys wingers, i'm telling you this guy is so average he will end up as 3rd choice winger at the Dragons one day.

And remember that some players who are rushed back from similar injuries never become the players they once were like Cipriani for example. Wasps are obviously desperate because of the injuries they've got and Dai Young knows Prydie from when he was coaching at the Blues so its a win-win situation.

Like Richard Fussell, oh wait, never mind ;)

Anyway, hopefully Prydie will get some gametime. Unfortunately, Southwell isn't in the Scotland squad, so it will be Prydie on the wing.

Fussell was a good underrated winger for the Dragons and he was first choice not third, and also did well in the first half of last season

don't let his poor full back play make you forget he was a handy winger on around the level of Mustoe (who I think should return to the Dragons) for example, w

I haven't. He was behind Will and Aled though. On the subject of Mustoe, I like the lad. Doesn't really put a foot wrong and always plays 100%.

I don't think you will find many matches where Fussell was on the bench behind Brew or Harries, in fact I checked Fussell started 14 of the 18 league matches in his last season with the Dragons, and was injured for the other 4

I remember Harries, Brew, Fussell that season all rotated through injuries so only two of the three was ever fit at the same time, so we'll never know if Fussell was considered third choice

Mustoe his a good attacking threat but what has left him down slightly is his defence. Not always but has at times.
