NRL needing Sexual Healing

A former work colleague of the woman at the centre of the Cronulla Sharks sex scandal involving Matthew Johns claims her co-worker bragged about the incident.

The woman has told the Nine Network that the woman in the ABC's Four Corners report, identified as "Clare", had boasted to her workmates about bedding several players and only contacted police five days after the alleged incident.

"She was absolutely excited about the fact. She was bragging about it to the staff and quite willing, openly saying how she had sex with several players," she said.

"We were quite disgusted about it. There was no trauma whatsoever.

"I'm disgusted that a woman can all of a sudden change her story from having a great time to then turning it into a terrible crime.

"One minute she was absolutely bragging about it, she did not know names. These names only came to light to us in the last day.

"We all just thought it was hilarious until five days later the police came to work and were horrified she had now changed her story to say she was now a victim of crime.

"It was definitely consensual, absolutely.

"She is saying she is still traumatised etcetera, well she wasn't for five days, or four days at least, after that affair.[/b]

Some interesting points, im sure atleast someone is out there just to make money from this.

I feel bad and sorry for Johns, taking in all the blame and i think the other guys should step and confess.

Normally I couldn't care less about something like this, but Brian Carney missed a Munster game (which would have been the poor fella's first start of the season) to go help out Mr. Johns as his wife was getting very worried about his mental state.

Think it is all blown out of proportion, as people have said the police are satisfied he did not break the law, I think the only thing morally wrong with what he did was the whole adultery thing but that is a different kettle of fish.

Anyways, good night and good luck.[/b]
"Earlier in the day, Johns arrived at Channel 9 studios in Willoughby with close friend Brian Carney, who flew in from Ireland as soon as he heard of the allegations."

That's a good friend. I'm ready to see Carney in action, though.

Don't get this problem in Union and if you do it's only from League converts.[/b]
That's just idiotic. It isn't league's problem. It's societies. The players didn't even do that much wrong. This whole incident is completely over hyped. It happened 7 years ago and when Johns was hired channel 9 knew that this incident had taken place. Everything doesn't have to be a competition between union and league.

"I am being harassed in the most awful ways and what is being reported by jornalists (sic) is horrible and untrue. They have got people speaking of me that are not my friends or people I have never met. It feels like I am living in a nightmare. All I wanted to do was to make people aware of the culture and stop it happening to other girls."

The recent statements released by ABC's Four Corners to the media are interesting.
Aside from the girl in question getting harrassed now, it addresses issues like the girl getting paid to do this interview, of which she did not.
Also, Johns and Channel 9, at the initial time of his hire, were aware of the whole thing. Surely both knew at some point this would come back.

This story, "Inside Room 15" is actually the most descriptive of what happened. As none of us were there, it's only left for us to assume as we read the details presented, but I have to say that this story matches the way I've thought the events went down.

"I was with the boys from Cronulla Sharks last night, I don't even know how many," she claimed the waitress boasted the next morning. Four days later, on February 20, the young woman went to police and said she had been sexually assaulted. By the end of the week she had quit her job.Ms Boyd claimed this week that when staff were told there was a police investigation, "it blew us away"."I told police I thought it was all made up and I believe many of the other staff told them the same thing," Ms Boyd said.[/b]
Again, I don't think the issue is about assault itself, but about the culture and lack of morals displayed by the shark players. It seems as if "Clare" was a consenting party...I think it's the "party" itself that we all question. Why is there the need for such a sexual act in sport (note I'm not just saying league) to "bond" teamates? It's a grosse trend that I hope dies out.
