NRFL Combine in United States Ready to Roll on April 5-6th

Yep pretty much they sent out a cryptic tweet about 6-7 weeks after the combine saying they'd made cuts and not a peep to be heard since.

But what is the scam?

It seems they spent a ton of money on not much.... Surely a scam would be of benefit to them?

If it were(and I'm not sure it is I think it might just be a completely horrible plan and idea). It would probably have been to create publicity.

I'm guessing they've run into the inevitable issues arising from them not wanting to be registered/associated with a Union.

I also wonder whether the quality of players that came to the combine was even worse than they imagined, and that the handful of scouts there told them it would be a total disaster if they tried to create a league out of it.

...yeah, I think the owners are clearly very naive as to the quality of players they potentially have at their disposal.
The fact is that it takes a long ****ing time to implement a system that is capable of consistently producing the quality of players that play top level professional rugby.

There's also the small matter of Eddie O'Sullivan moving to Biarritz!

Yeah agree with all that rats, the likely scenario is it's turned into a bit of a white Elephant for them.

I do think that it's very poor after all the chest beating that there is now complete silence.

This is the latest I'm hearing out of the NRFL.....

There still isn't much info other than they are planning to sell franchises and start a pro-league by next summer and Craig Dowd has joined as a Director.

Plus another combine in mid January.

I'll hold my breath on their starting date juts seems so ludicrously optimistic. My guess is the talent that showed up to their last combine wasn't up to snuff(though we don't really know since it was closed to media) and that's why they are running another one.

Dowd as director is a postivie sign but they've already had a few big names pop in for a cup of coffee and leave quickly.

In the states it seems 7's is just as big (if not bigger) than proper rugby - they actually need to differentiate.
The seniority of the full game isn't ingrained from what I can tell.

Yeah mate... they don't want anything to do with Unions - hence why they can't organise a game with anyone!
