[November Tests 2016 EOYT] Wales vs. Australia (05/11/2016)

'They read more like Daily Mail headlines' is the most over used pathetic phrase trotted out by Trotskyites to try and justify an argument.

Not sure if you are defending the mail or wales online, neither position is exactly good.

There you go again with 'Howler'. I think it's childish.

Yup, wish you'd stop with that rubbish valley commando. Adds nothing to your comments and isn't as clever as you may think.

I'm very unhappy to see Cuthbert in the starting line-up as well. I don't think it's fair on Cuthbert himself, it'd be much better if he were allowed to re-gain form at the Blues. Tonight's Ospreys v Munster game showed that Howley was right not to jump on the Giles bandwagon; but Tom James or Hallam Amos would have been better options on the wing over Cuthbert!

My feeling are slightly different for the 10 shirt. Sam Davies has proven himself time and time again against quality teams playing for the Ospreys, and I would have started him. But I don't blame Howley for sticking with Biggar for this game. At least Davies has made the bench.

Other than those two positions, I agree with the selections Howley has made. If Liam Williams & Scott Williams were fit, then it would have opened up a couple more debates, but they aren't, so there we go.

My comments aren't supposed to be 'clever' and as for Giles he did pretty well in a beaten team who were without 9 1st choice players, he's good but he's not superman.

I think recently sport is seeing the benefit of consistency. England have benefitted massively from their consistent performances and the consistency of Saracens. The All Blacks have been so consistent for years in is infectious in their squad. Scotland before the World Cup benefitted massively from Glasgow winning.

For me Wales have lacked a lot of consistency that saw them win the GS previously. However if they play like they did against New Zealand in the summer, then I would have them as favourites. Same as if Australia can replicate their form of the world cup (their better matches) I would have them as favourites. Interested to see which teams turn up tomorrow.

My heart says Wales but Cooper has the ability to mesmerise northern hemisphere teams.

Giles did do pretty well to be fair with him. But he was still exposed positionally on a number of occasions by a Munster team also missing their international players. If that were an international team of the quality of Australia, it could have been very detrimental to his development.

Giles is where he his. He's a supreme talent who's only played five regional matches. He's got stuff to work on. Anyone suggesting that he should have been thrown in against Australia needs their heads checking imo. Give the lad time and he will hopefully blossom into one hell of a player, but he sure as hell aint there yet!

it was made to look worse by Dan Evans to be fair to him. at international level theres no way halfpenny or williams would have missed that kind of play. their positioning at full back is exceptional. munster really did their homework though, they obviously realised Giles was rushing up in defence and theres a gap behind that is not covered. had Evans clocked onto this and caught the ball theres only 2 players to beat which he could quite easily. im not in any way saying Giles should start for wales against australia but his defence wasnt that bad yesterday, ive seen international wingers make much worse mistakes.

Yup, so have I. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't having a massive go at Giles. But there was obviously a weakness there that Munster exploited on more than one occasion. Despite having strong games, the Munster wingers aren't exactly of the caliber of Haylett-Petty etc. so he may have gotten more exposed at international level. As you say, Halfpenny would have protected him better, but the fullback can't be everywhere, so the wingers need to be up to the job.

Saying that, North and Cuthbert have been similarly caught out in the past. So maybe I'm being too critical. The difference I see it is that North etc. have the experience to shrug off a mistake; whereas a young man making his debut could affect him far worse.

If the choice was Cuthbert or Giles, I may well have plumped for Giles. But with Tom James, Amos and Walker all playing well, there were other good options before Giles. Still shows that it was a poor decision by Howley imo to select Cuthbert.

Wales online is welsh nationalist ****e, the mail is British nationalist ****e. I see the theme in your choice of media...

As a bit of a Welsh nationalist I take offence at being associated with that virtual sh*t rag. :p The only nationalism coming out of them tends to be fairly superficial (like Andy Howell trying to say Cuthbert is almost as good as Savea ).

Jon Davies out is a blow. Big fan of Scott Williams but my only worry is whether or not he's even fit as he wasn't initially even selected in the 23?

yea the cuthbert decision was a little odd, but perhaps cuthbert had been peforming better (than james at least) in training, just wasnt up to match fitness. and since being in the wales camp has excelled. hopefully he has a stormer but i say this before every game cuthbert is selected and ive only been shown up a couple of times (since his 2012-2013 form which was amazing. that try vs france was outstanding)

Looking at the sides I think I'll be going with a comfortable Oz win of 10-12. They are going to decline over the next five years but still have too much for anyone in the NH bar England. I'll be surprised if Wales get a try as the Oz defence is pretty handy and I don't consider Cuthbert, Roberts or halfpenny as a threat. As ever, I will be cheering on the NH underdogs though despite my pessimism.

JD2 out injured- tight hamstring; Scott Williams comes in at 13.

I wish I was Welsh, so much easier to get tickets for the games.

Wales' blitz looks really good/solid so far, but it does leave them open to those kicks
