northern vs southern hemisphere rugby

You can't really compare 6N to Super 15 rugby really. I mean for one - the weather, you can't play expansive rugby on a cold wet day in Murrayfield. And it's still summer down South, no sign of rain for a few months yet!

Okay I'll bite...

Chuck Norris wears striped Schalk Burger pyjamas...

The only reason why there were so many NH posters on this thread was because it's too bloody cold for them to go outside and enjoy sunlight like us...

and they drink their beer warm! bleh!!!

England, France, Wales have and soon Ireland and Italy will have beaten Scotland.

Last time Scotland played South Africa and Australia, they beat them both. Ireland also beat Aus.

Therefore Northern Hemisphere is better than southern hemisphere. Fact. End of sotry. Dis klaar.

Current player of the year is from the north as well.

lol!!!

there are a SH coach, coaching Wales, the forwards of Ireland, and Gary Gold is also up there somewhere...

No NH coach down here though... Maybe it's the accents...

no Boerseun would understand if some ginger said to him: "Oi laddie, why don' you come over hither"...

I think where the NH has the upper hand is their production of liquid refreshment! Beer, Scotch or Irish whiskey, champagne... all of them go down great...

but, that leaves out wales... they haven't made any well-liked drink... ever!!

Meh our bottled water along with our bottled spirits seem to do well in tv and films in the UK and the US mind :p

im really interested in your thoughts about the rugby games played over the weekend, i know its hard to compare club rugby with international rugby, but i honestly felt let down by speed, physicallity, option taking & decision making in the weekends six nations games. So i throw it open to anyone who managed to watch the opening games of the super 15 vs the games played in the six nations :)

Its not hard to compare, its impossible to compare. Its like comparing (NZ) Club Rugby with ITM Cup, and ITM Cup with Super Rugby.

If you want to make a fair comparison, compare Aviva Premiership, Heineken Cup, Pro12 & Top 14 with Super Rugby, but remember to factor in that Super Rugby has been played mostly on hard & fast grounds in the summer, while the NH is playing in the cold, damp and genarally heavier conditions. of late winter.

IMO, Heineken Cup stacks up pretty well against anything we have to offer in the SH. This year's edition has been exciting, dramatic and suspenseful. I find it hard to argue against it being at least the equal of Super Rugby, if not better in some aspects.

Ok - I will take the bait and hopefully turn around this thread.

Its nonsense to compare. Claiming one has a better product than another is just a waste of time.

There are no many variable besides just how attractive a match is. Lions vs Cheetahs was better than Lyon vs Brive but if a coach wants to who defensive patterns he´d ban his players from watching the Lions vs Cheetahs match. The Lyon vs Brive match was the way it was because both teams face relegation to the second division. There is no room for expansive rugby when careers are on the line. Super Rugby is the way it is, in no small part, because of no relegation. The Rabo Direct Pro 12 is too for the same reason.

But saying this makes the Aviva Premiership and Top 14 Orange inferior is poor. The crowds in the Pro 12 are not what they could or should be. The crowds in Super Rugby are not what they should be either. There may well, indeed, be something in this to learn. Possibly, the reason is people are more attracted to getting behind their teams and attending matches when the compeition has more riding on it.

My view is precisely this: With little riding on matches in terms of consequences the product is significantly inferior to what it would otherwise be. Defence can be attractive! Even Kiwi´s will admit that the World Cup Final was easily the best All Blacks match of the year and it was an 8-7 win!

Super Rugby is an attractive competition but needs more riding on it. The Southern Kings should replace the worst South African team. Every country ought to have a team to replace the bottom side. This is a huge weakness - there is no system for this. Perpignan vs Toulon in Barcelona got over 50,000 packed into the Olympic Stadium last season. It was a Quarter Final in the Heineken Cup. This season neither club is in the Heineken Cup as neither finished in France´s top six teams in the 2010-2011 Top 14.

Trying to be as respectful to everyones views as possible I, nonetheless, say Europe has a better product. Seeing England vs Wales which had one try. It was a great match, nonetheless. Scotland vs France was better. My favorite Super Rugby match of the round (I saw most of them) was Blues vs Crusaders. Neither side scored 20 points. I repeat, defence can be beautiful too. Any player or ex-player knows this.

Big Ginger 8 can't say roster properly.
I think the best way to decide on which hemisphere is better is to compare Simon zebo to digby ioane. Digby is definitely better, case closed
We should also note that Argentina and Namibia play rugby and it's not too exciting and attacking.
If we split the world into west and eastern hemispheres then we could have an interesting discussion.

Brains SA Gold is awesome but I cant find in in Bristol anywhere. The Wetherspoons behind Temple Meads had it for a bit and my local club had it for last years game but cant find it anywhere else.

I miss having brains

your satisfied with the quality of six rugby that was played over the weekend? the opening round of the six nations was stunning, wales v ireland had everything a test match needs, i was craving more of that rugby, was i wrong to expect it. i genuinlly felt let down by weekends games. What makes iit worse is everyone saying they were cracking games raving about the test ???? am i the only one that disagrees with the intensity of the fixtures????

You scared? Italy played really well - beware NZ.
