Northampton Saints 2017 - 2018

West leaving by mutual consent at end of season.
No great surprise with Boyd arriving guess he will bring a number of coaches with him.

My hope for next seasons coaching:
Scrum - Franks (player coach)
Lineout/breakdown - new coach
Defence - Dowson
Back/Skills - Vesty

Am I missing any areas?

Academy as well maybe been a shade weak in production last couple of seasons.
Or maybr JMs lack of promoting.

1 would love Kennedy as fordwards/lineout coach
2 balance in the centres looks strong next season (Symons, Francis and Horne)
3 still worried about LHP
4 back row is looking a bit low in numbers

Outside backs apparently Spedding and Osbourne.
Franks main position is TH BTW

You need a 8 though.

Not sure we'll get an 8 this season. From what I've heard Boyd likes a mobile pack so might see how Eadie and Harrison go

Saints management should've bent over backwards to keep Picamoles. There isn't a single major ball carrier in your pack and Picamoles is one of the very few players in the world capable of making up for a whole pack.

I agree desperate here hill has shown abit when not out of favour but generally poor abd yes No8 is a big hole to fill.
I guess with 17 players now confirmed off and less than 1/2 that signed I'm guessing a huge chunk of cap is free after North Myler Groom Foden Horne gone to bring in some quality.
I am assuming all Mr Boyds to spend as he was over last.
Off to say bye to some good servants this afternoon.
Maybe a fun game with nowt to play for ith both teams.

It's a mixed bag. Decent in parts but poor in others.

Number 8 is the obvious area that needs improvement. Eadie is a decent player, but isn't good enough to be first choice IMO.

Horne is a big loss and you definitely need a good 13.

I'd say you also need another good loose head rather than a tight head. Waller is super reliable, but none of the understudies is up to much.

Osbourne and Spedding will give you some physical threat and size in the backs.

So, co-captains Hartley and Waller. What are people's thoughts?
My brother had the opportunity to attend a training session (looking at S&C particularly) and said he could see exactly why Hartley is captain just from how he was in the session and with the squad.
My only thought is why not make Waller vice captain when's Hartley's away? How does co-captain work?

Surely a question to be answered is who Northampton consider is the best/first choice hooker . Haywood played well in Hartleys absence last season.

So either Hartley and Waller will both get subbed off together at 60 minutes (which would be madness) or one is seen as bench, so Hartley goes off and Waller goes on?

Haywood is probably the best second choice hooker in the Premiership now Brits has left Saracens.
