NH Rugby Transfers

Don't see why your excited. Tipoki hasn't gone a year without a suspension (Last Year it was for 17 weeks). He is a Ballhog and has no kicking game. Has a hell of a step though and would've possibly been an All Black if he wasn't so old and prone to the aforementioned habit of getting himself suspended.

How old is Tipoki - 28 or 31? [/b]

32

Northampton Saints today announced the further bolstering of their squad with the signing of Karl Rudzki.

27 year-old Rudzki is equally at home in both the second and back rows and his 6ft 5inch, 17st 9lb frame will add ballast to Saints’ forward effort.

He joins Northampton from French Top 14 side Bayonne and has signed a one-year contract. Rudzki has also played for Pau and Harlequins and represented England U21.

“Karl is a rugged, hard and abrasive player whose experience in France adds strength to our squad for the coming season,†said Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder. “He’s also a versatile player and his ability in the lineout will increase our options in a crucial aspect of the game.â€[/b]

Anyone know anything about him?

former Ponty and Wales flanker Richard Parks is set to end his time in france with Perpignan to return to Wales with the Newport Gwent Dragons according to todays Wales on Sunday. was a fantastic player for Ponty and it would be good to see him come back to welsh rugby.

Its the later one - he is over for 30, so in other words your getting yourself excited over a 32 Year Old Centre who never made it past the NZ Maori Level and likes to get into fights.

Although he was the Form Centre of the 2005 season when he came in mid year.

he had a good season a couple of years ago playing for the minnows Pau (who were relegated at the end of the year)

played just a few games in Top14 (5, only 3 as a starter) last year at Bayonne, not able to estimate him

I heard Shane Williams is signing for Stade Francies for 200k a year 2yr deal [/b]

Wow, that's certainly not a bad deal for either party. Didn't imagine him wanting to leave Ospreys mind.

Anyway, Munster, Leinster or CAnnacht fans, lend me your ears!

New Saints centre James Downey
Northampton Saints today announced the signing of James Downey to their first team squad for the coming season. The 26 year-old Irish centre arrives at Franklin's Gardens from Italian outfit Calvisano. He has also played for Irish provinces Munster, Connacht and Leinster as well as for Ireland Sevens.

Downey has a reputation for hard running, helped by a 6ft 4in, 16 stone frame. He was an ever-present in Calvisano's Heineken Cup campaign last season, starting all six Pool Three matches.

Downey has signed a one-year contract with the Saints and is excited by the prospect of playing in England.

"Northampton's a club with a strong tradition and fantastic, top-class facilities," he said. "I'm looking forward to helping get the Saints back into the Premiership and meeting the challenge of playing against teams that will all be looking to defeat us. It will also be good to play with some familiar faces such as Christian Short and Damien Browne, who I played with at Connacht.

"Playing for Jim Mallinder, Dorian West and Paul Grayson will be exciting for me. They will add to my game and improve it and I'm relishing learning everything I can from them."

"James brings plenty of experience and a good attitude to Franklin's Gardens," said Saints' director of rugby Jim Mallinder. "He fits the profile of the player we want here, both in his hard work but also his ability to fit into an exciting back line and he could make a big impact this season. I'm looking forward to welcoming him to the Saints."

well, he played an avarage season at Calvisano

a solid player, rarely made errors, but he never was so important as expected, never too much brilliant, not even in the easy italian Super10 league

He's not been bad, but he hasn't had the impact a guy of his stature should.

His scrummaging still needs a lot of work although in open play he can be very destructive in both attack and defense.

It's strange though - he sometimes seems reluctant to really go hunting for ball carries. If someone can really fire him up then he has the potential to be devastating around the pitch.

Cheers Saints Fan

Yeh, i can picture that, he seemed whe he played for the islander team in 2004 to be really destructive in open play he made some breaks however you would think that because he is 6'5 and like 125 kgs that he would be a menace in the scrum...he wasnt to flash there...

i think that is a common problem amongst islanders unless they are fired up they can be very lazy around the field when they are fired up they can compete with the best teams but on a bad day they are as good as an NPC or Currie Cup team against an international....

I think the biggest problem among Islanders is technique more than anything. The All Blacks have trotted out some decent Props of Polynesian Descent over the years, they are usually no different to the ones who stay in the Islands, except they have been coached by specialist scrum doctorsâ'¬, especially if they immigrate early and are bought up through the NZ Ranks/System.

Does anyone know where Agustin Pichot is playing next season? I don't think i saw his name in the new Stade Francais squad for 2007-08.
