NH Rugby Transfers

Bad move by Leinster, they have plenty of decent young back rows. Finegan is only after his paycheck.

Bristol Rugby have added New Zealand fly-half David Hill to their squad for the new Guinness Premiership campaign.

The 27-year-old, who follows former Waikato team-mate Sean Hohneck to the club, played for the All Blacks against Ireland in the recent Test series.

Bristol chief executive David White said: "This is a significant signing for Bristol and we are looking forward to David joining us on November 1 following the conclusion of the New Zealand NPC competition.

"He is an experienced, well-performed player who has the ability to play both fly-half and inside centre."

Head coach Richard Hill added: "We have been closely following David Hill over the last 18 months and have been impressed with his progress, in particular his leadership in the pivotal fly-half position, his accurate goal-kicking, flair and versatility.

"Having spoken to David at length we believe that his attitude and character will be a real asset to the squad.

"At only 27 years of age he is at his prime and will be integral to the continued development of Bristol Rugby."

Where does that leave Perry?

You mean where does signing a fly half leave scrum half Perry? Pretty much where he was, I'd imagine.

Has anyone told this guy where bristol is, or what brand of 'rugby' they play? He had better add some creativity to that side, boring old bristol.

Leinster have signed Harry Vermaas, a 22 y/o hooker/loosehead from the Blue Bulls and Andy Dunne is also training with them.

Transfers to French clubs are closed since last week but for the clubs that were promoted from ProD2 to Top14, Albi & Montauban, and from Fédérale 1 to ProD2: Gaillac, Grenoble & Limoge.

Lutui [La-too-ee] isn't that hard a name. It's certainly no Faamatuainu.
And it's got nothing on Villiame Waqaseduadua and Junior Poluleuligaga from North Harbour :p

Dragons capture back-row Charvis

Newport Gwent Dragons have signed Colin Charvis on a one-year contract.

The 84-cap former Wales captain, 33, was released by Newcastle at the end of last season and pondered retirement as he could not land a new contract.

But Michael Owen's shoulder injury left the Dragons short in the back-row, so Charvis has arrived at Rodney Parade.

Dragons coach Paul Turner said: "It was important that we secured the signing of a world-class forward and Colin fits that description."

Charvis has vast experience at international level, having also toured with the 2001 Lions.

He captained Newcastle and has also played a season for French club Tarbes after being overlooked for a contract when Wales switched from club to regional rugby.

Charvis started his career with London Welsh before joining Swansea in 1995, playing a key role in helping them claim Welsh League ***les in 1998 and 2001, as well as the Welsh Cup in 1999.

"He is a big, strong forward and is a huge boost for the region. He is a proven leader and has a vast amount of experience," Turner added.

"It's a huge statement of intent and ambition. I've been talking to Colin over the last two months and I was impressed with his ambition both at regional and international level."

# The Dragons have been boosted by the news that Wales second-row Luke Charteris will be fit for the kick off of the new season.

The lock injured his knee on Wales' summer tour to Argentina and the problem flared up in pre-season training, but a scan revealed no major damage.

----------------------------------

Good to see he's not been forced into retirement due to not getting a new job and I'm sure he'll do well in Newport, although I wonder how wise it is picking him up at his age, especially considering how many injuries he's had over the last couple of seasons.

I guess only time will tell.
