hey, so i'd thought were half way through the mid-year test series i'd thought i would like to tell you the how much these tests affects the irb rankings

so here is the lists off those teams who went up atm:
- Fiji 10 (11) 75.56
- Scotland 8 (10) 75.92
- Georgia 15 (16) 70.46
- Tunisia 39 (43) 49.89

Teams that went down in the rankings:
- Argentina 11 (8) 75.71
- Canada 16 (15) 69.35
- Czech Republic 40 (39) 49.49
- Kazakhstan 41 (40) 48.91
- Malta 42 (41) 48.85
- Senegal 43 (42) 48.69

so i'd thought i'd ask what do you think will happen to the rankings in the next week or two in the rankings ?

I can easily see Scotland get past Argentina which would mean little enough for Scotland apart from consoladating their position but it'd mean Argentina fall 1 spot more to their record low to below an ever improving Japan!

I love how France is just sitting there at 7. Casually...

Bloody Malta, I've been hoping to see then develop into. Rugby power house and their fall to 42 in the world rankings has ruined this.

Yeah, seems they have gone tot Soccer World cup as well, as Spain, really really sad

Screw Malta!

I'm ****** off at Senegal!!

I was hoping they might give Namibia a good challenge so that they fight it out for the last african spot for the World Cup!

btw i think japan is going to be ranked higher than Argentina after Argentina's lost to scotland and Japan's win over italy. if Georgia overtake italy then i want to see them in the next six nations

I don't know if Scotland would keep their spot if they had gone to do the Italian tour. Let's be honest, to play the islands in that quite warm weather is not an easy task.
Now is Scotlands' turn to visit them :)

i think they would do you know the temperature's in the USA ? and Argentina ? i think we are capable off beating them teams we did a tour like that after the world cup but we didn't play japan. we played a full samoan team i think, and fiji and also australia and we won all three off the i think we're capable off italy's tour

You're right, I forgot that tour. The thing here is that Italy didn't play with a "full" team. Some uncap players did tour and for sure they learned a big lesson. Next 6N will be the point where we realize if Italy can hold that T1 ***le.
Nevertheless if Romania or Canada manage to win against one of the 6N unions at RWC (most likely Italy), the irb must consider a big change in the structure and calendar.

New Scotland rating: 77.78
New Japan rating: 75.39
New Argentina rating: 73.97
New Italy rating: 70.91

So, yes Japan jumped Argentina like I mentioned earlier in this thread. You can follow the below link and use the tool which uses the calculations the IRB use;

Canada's loss to the US will see them drop below Romania in the rankings.

jesus i didn't expect scotland to go up by nearly 1.00 + but that isn't goint to stay like that for long

F**king Italians, their losses against Tier 2 teams made possible the advancement of Japan and Fiji. I'm not saying that Argentina is the best team in the world but our team B had good performances against Ireland and we were stolen by John Lacey against Scottish

Any away win against similarly enough placed teams will be a big swing yes as the system allows an assumed 3 points handicap for the home team. The system is only so accurate but the main problema are outside of the actual maths; the fact that some teams don't play many tests outside their 'circle', the smaller teams tend not to play with full strength squads all the time.. there are actually so many but if youu take those into account it is a fair enough gauge over the mid-long term. As for Scotlands position it should stay that way for some time still; they can't lose any points against SA as you can't lose a point to an opponent 10 points higher than you no matter the score line and SA with the assumed 3 points reflecting home advantage is assumed close to 14.56 points ahead of Scotland so a loss won't mean anything. If on the other hand Scotland win- certainly an upset but not at all impossible- the ranking positions won't change but the margins would be very close between SA and Aus and Scotland behind France. A win for Scotland by 15+ would see SA drop to 3rd behind Aus and Scotland climb to 6 ahead of Wales.
