Matt O'Connor Confirmed as new Leinster Coach

He will have his work cut out to match Schmidt given that he will lose Sexton and Nacewa and possibly BOD for inferior replacements. Even matching Cheika may be tricky.

I think Schmidt may go down as a Leinster legend over time. Surprised that Gibbes wasn't promoted tbh.

Hopefully O'Connor doesn't do so well, after all as Leicester backs coach his backline attack moves just seem revolve around Tuilagi tbh.

Schmidt's already a Leinster legend.

BO'D will stay on I think

Don't really get your last sentence doesn't make much sense to me the hopefully doesn't really seem to fit.

9. Reddan/Boss/Cooney/McGrath
10. Madigan/Gopperth/Marsh/Reid/O'Shea
11/14. Fitzgerald/McFadden/D.Kearney/Hudson/Byrne/Coghlan-Murray/Boyle
12. D'arcy/McFadden/Goodman/Reid/Coghlan/O'Shea
13. O'Driscoll/O'Malley/Macken/McFadden/Byrne
15. Kearney/Kirchener/Fitzgerald/Hudson/Byrne/Dardis/Reid

For backs alone isn't too bad. Not as strong cerainly as this year but a good base to work with.

Jono Gibbes is only 36 and has plenty of time to get a head coaching gig in future. Also, earlier in the season, Joe Schmidt ceded responsibility to the assistant coaches for a short period of time. I assume if Gibbes impressed, it would be he who was annouced as new head coach earlier today.

Apparently the remit was for a the new coach to be a backs specialist. O'Connor came in for a week, explained his attacking and defensive philosophy to the squad and won their approval. It seems as though his outlook on the game is similar to that of the new Ireland coach.

If he is any good (which I believe he is) then Duck he won't have a problem because while he won't have Nacewa Sexton and possibly BOD I do believe a good coach will be excited by the talent there that is still been developing.
