Marika Koroibete to be fast tracked to wallabies for AI tests.

Dude is dangerous. Could quite easily be Aussies best winger in a while. Would suggest that he has more intangibles than Savea.

Great ... can he play in the centre's too?

Maybe they could buy some forwards ;)

Good idea... not like they're bursting at the seams with super talented wingers.

He's young too.

not going to hurt to have him in the squad. Cheika likes to take a look at players - he's had Hunt in the squad several times and Nabuli.

I don't follow league, even though I'm from Melbourne, wouldn't know what the storm are doing - he could be a real find.

Agreed that he is a talent, but I can't help but feel that Australia can find quality wings relatively easy, but the need to find extra quality players in other areas. An "A list backline" will always struggle if they can't receive quality ball from the set piece.

most definitely,we are lacking in up front grunt. This is nothing new and further papering over the cracks by tryng to compensate with a star studded backline.

Yep, I think the whole system needs an overhaul in Australia (more investment at grass roots, looking at non traditional clubs for players, less money recruiting cross coders), but, having said that, if they are looking at rugby league players, surely Brad Thorn type players are a better investment at this juncture.

Wait, what?

The Storm have won the minor-premiers, and Koroibete is one of their most dangerous players...

goddam just watched a highlights reel of Koroibete. looking forward to Rebels 2017

I have no knowledge of league in Oz or how many of their union players have crossed from league, but I'd have thought there'd be plenty good Aussie league players who, if they are not likely to make the league national side, could be lured over to union with the promise of a similar pay packet, a guaranteed chance in the national jersey and the opportunity to play in a proper RWC.

If I was the ARU I'd be aggressively pursuing that strategy as a short term fix while they get their house in order in terms of developing their own talent in the medium to long term. It won't help for numbers 1-10 but it would help Australia halt their downward trend and compete in the RC and the next RWC. The next 12 months would be the ideal time to try and lure and integrate league players with the prospect of Japan 2019.

Well to inform you - Australia has bern doing that for over a decade. The problem is that Australia's difficulty generally stems from a below average forward pack. But Australia has many league converts, many of them have also not excelled in Union either.

Hah! I stand informed, thanks. I only knew of Folau in the current national side, which doesn't sound particularly aggressive a strategy to me (more like more relaxed English approach). And of course, yes, there is no guarantee a player will transition across codes and that's why I suggest it is best to focus your efforts on trying this 2-3 years out from the next RWC so both parties have time to "suck it and see". If the ARU are already ruthlessly targeting suitable league players then all power to them and look forward to reading more articles like this in the future.
