Manu Samoa and the RWC

Never heard of him. I know of the Irish guy who is the CEO of Digicel.

Honestly, Samoa don't have what it takes to win the RWC. Semis at the very best unless half the heavyweights go out. The players individually are good, but the squad will never be cohesive as they are essentially a group of 'westernised' club mercenaries gathered from mostly around European and NZ club rugby.

The main reason in the past that Samoa has punched far above it's weight in world rugby is that the game was not professional, and that although arguably the skill level may have been less, the raw pride and passion of 15 usos all coming from such a strong community made them a fierce team and they stayed true to their natural game. They also were Samoan through and through, and no disrespect to any usos outside of Samoa, Auckland etc but if you move away to different cultures you will find yourself becoming ethnically diluted over time, as you find yourself away from the pull of the fa'asamoa.. and more to western 'luxury'.

However, in any case these days the game has come on so much that samoan brute strength and intense physicality doesn't really matter too much as most teams can cope with Manu Samoa or any other brute team in any case. I have no doubt, this is the best group of technically-developed players Samoa has ever had though (on a skill and career level) they are disjointed mentally as a group.

The main reason why Samoa won the 7's is because they don't have to worry about the set-piece at all. They have all the flair, and also again.. look at who's in those teams. It's guys like Pesamino, Uale, Lolo and a conveyor belt of samoans who still directly connect with Samoa.

If i had a tip for the RWC, i'd say a Tonga side over Fiji or Samoa. That'd never happen, but they are better at keeping possession, and for some reason for me whenever i've seen them, have a solidity about their game that Samoa and Fiji can't maintain consistently.. again maybe because Tongans generally tend to stay nearer to home by playing in Japan, Australia, NZ etc.

Don't agree. This team have been playing as a collective group and are very organized in the way they do things. This team have been very cohesive and they have a system in place that is working.

I think your opinion has come a bit late, because the way Samoa are playing now, they're doing the opposite of what you've stated.

No. Not a chance in a million years.

They have more chance of winning the world cup then Ireland beating the All Blacks,If the Manu had the likes of Nonu,Vito, Rodney So'oialo,Umaga,Toeava,SBW,Tialata,Mils,Afoa,Julian Svea and even jerry collins.allowed to play for them i would say a big chance, all samaon blood

Yet they don't, so hey ho

I think the wrong question is being asked; instead of asking could Somoa win the world cup, maybe we should be asking if Somoa should be upgraded to a Tier 1 nation? Maybe a few nations should get a bit of a shuffle.

That Plane Crashed and burned. We cant rely on outsiders to do Samoa any favors. Samoa Got Bigger Brighter stars on the way. Samoa is a lot better they just havent realized it yet. Its gonna be like your face when they announced Samoa were the superiors in the 2010 7's. Watch with your eyes and not with your mind.
