Ma'a Nonu gets one week suspension

I'm gutted about this. Means we'll have to wait another year to see SBW v Nonu.

Im not really cause they will meet again latter down the track they play each team in there conference twice,i want both of them on form when they meet.Im glad Ma'a just got a week:)

I was expecting big things, but one poor perfromance has led him to be dropped from my fantasy team for giteau. hope he comes back to some good form.
I too would love to see SBW vs Nonu. The contact would be insane.

iF tHAt WAz baKKiees BoErtA he wOOd HAve gOtTed 9 wEEKs!!!?!?!

T'was a poor challenge from Nonu, deserves what he got but definitely no more
Certainly takes an edge off the Crusaders vs. Hurricanes game

Nonu was just unlucky for it being his second yellow card after getting the first card more as a team card than a individual card.

I think a week is about right. I mean, at the end of the day it was - as the commentators said - a team yellow card and then shoulder barge.
Nothing entirely serious, but a red card to come out from it.

If the game is postponed Ma'a Nonu will get off his ban, am I correct? This wouldn't be the first time luck has been on Ma'a Nonu's side in not serving a ban.

Yeah he would and the Canes have the bye in week 3 so two weeks off anyway.Hahaha yes that was funny how he got off from that week ban cause the next game was 8 days later not 7 lol

They must have changed how they do things after that. He got a one week ban here and the Highlanders game was on a Friday with this one scheduled for the next Saturday.

Nonu didn't get away with it. His ban comes into play in their next game against the Chiefs March 12th... Well common sense would tell you that anyway

Im sure Ma'a will get off on a technicality as the game being called off but both teams get 2 points each from it.This would suggest he would be free to play against the Chiefs in week 4.The game being called off is not Ma'a's fault so he shouldn't be punished for this.It would be different if neither team got points for the cancelled game.I see he does have the right to appeal so he might get off still.

I really think that's ridiculous. You can't just go back and change someone's punishment after the fact. It is SANZAR's fault for ever banning people by weeks in the first place. It makes much more sense to take people out for a set number of games.

Im sure the Hurricanes have a valid arguement to contest the Nonu ban and let play against the Chiefs.

If Hampton's decision stands he would effectively be ruling Nonu out of competitive rugby for 28 days because of the Hurricanes' bye week falling between the cancelled Crusaders match and their next fixture, the Chiefs match on March 12. They play the Blues on Saturday March 19.

It would also rule him out of a Hurricanes replacement match scheduled for next Wednesday, as well as a development team fixture against Samoa A next Saturday.

Those two matches coupled with the fact that Nonu has already received a red card and the length of the extension would form a strong case for an appeal.

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett said last night the change had taken the squad by surprise.

"We need to get legal advice and make a decision about what we are going to do. We are playing a game on Wednesday so it would take Ma'a out of two games if it is upheld."

Hammett noted the trial match had been organised before the judiciary extended the time frame.

He's got to get off now. SANZAR stuffed up and have been exposed.

to be absolutely honest mate. Those two weekly games aren't even worth the mention. He was banned from playing in the Super Rugby competition, not in some pointless development matches where i'm highly confident Nonu wouldn't be used much in these games anyway. So as far as the trial match and the Samoa A match go,... it's just the media increasing the hype.

The ban should stand seen as it was a natural disaster which caused Nonu to miss the game in the first place. The Crusaders missed out on a whole game let alone losing one player for one match.

In the current situation, I think it is absolutely fair that Nonu should serve his ban during the Chiefs game.

It's as if a criminal has been sentenced to a weeks imprisonment, then an earthquake strikes and destroys the prison and they can't do anything about it for the next couple of weeks. When they can eventually do something about it he will then serve his time.

But the Hurricanes v Crusaders match wasn't really canceled, it was deemed to have been played and the result is declared a 0-0 draw with 2 points going to each team.

Table points were given, so that should have been Nonu's suspension served. Not his fault the game was called off.

Your prison argument is spurious. A man is given a 4 week sentence, but the prison is destroyed before they can incarcerate him, and it takes them two days to transfer him to another prison elsewhere in the country. They do NOT add two days to his sentence.
