Looks like James O'Conner has sign with the Rebels

All the stories are complete crap that have just come from some journo's baseless claims.

He may or may not sign with the Rebels, but the media doesn't have a clue.

Yeah, I think you might be right - after I posted those first two articles from the Sydney Morning Herald, I saw another one from them a day later saying he could go to the Brumbies ... I contemplated posting that one, but thought, no, why bother ... just more speculation

James O'Connor was born on the Gold Coast wasn't he? Nah I dislike him as a person going back as far as 2007 haha.

Hmmmmm, I remember a commentator from two years back saying he was eligeble (sp.) for SA, Aus and NZ because he was born in Durban, lived long enough in Aus and had NZ parents

However after a quick search on the interweb it appears as though you are in the one in the right

O'Conner is from the Gold Coast. He is eligible for NZ and SA because of his Grandparents (iirc).

And this today:
THE race for James O'Connor's signature has intensified with Queensland coach Ewen McKenzie telephoning the Wallabies whiz kid on the weekend.

"There has been so much newspaper talk about him leaving the Western Force that I thought I would find out for myself where he stood," McKenzie told The Australian yesterday.

"I'm not into inducing players to leave their teams and I've always believed that people tend to stay where they are and it's generally hard to get them to leave."

It's all a massive media circus. No one has a clue but James himself.

Reds & Brumbies interested in signing O'Connor

Article Published: Monday 18 April 2011

The Race to sign James O'Connor took another twist when it was revealed that the Reds and the Brumbies are also interested in signing him.

Reds coach Ewen McKenzie has already held talks with the 20 year old with a view to finding out if he was interested in moving to the Reds.

"There has been so much newspaper talk about him leaving the Western Force that I thought I would find out for myself where he stood," McKenzie told The Australian.

"I'm not into inducing players to leave their teams and I've always believed that people tend to stay where they are and it's generally hard to get them to leave."

"But if he is determined to leave the Force or he wants a change -- let's face it, he has been with them for the past four years -- it would be crazy not to talk to him."

McKenzie had never spoken to O'Connor before and had to introduce himself before the two chatted briefly.

"James told me he is basically canvassing his options and suggested I speak with his manager, which I'll be doing first thing (today)," McKenzie said.

Indications are that O'Connor will base his decision on where he will play in the future on how it will affect his football which puts the Reds in a strong position as they lead the tournament.

The Reds believe that O'Connor would be attracted to Queensland by the chance of playing alongside his friend Quade Cooper.

The story of where O'Connor will play next does not end in Queensland though as the Brumbies are also interested in signing him and a source close to the Brumbies has told The Australian that the Canberra team are "quietly confident" they can sign O'Connor.

The Brumbies have the funds available to sign O'Connor following the decision of Wallabies backs Matt Giteau and Adam Ashley-Cooper (Waratahs) to leave at the end of the season.

O'Connor would be a perfect replacement for Giteau who will leave for Toulon after the world cup.

Reds, Rebels and Brumbies trying to snatch him from the Force. Why do they keep doing this? This way the Force will never be a team to go for the play offs

JOC and Quade Cooper are good friends from what I gather, could sway him towards QLD

JOC also trains with the Reds during the Wallabies off season, he goes off to Queensland for holidays while the Force train in Perth.

Rod MacQueen may be making a rod for his own back. If he starts getting all the star players, it doesnt make his coaching skills look all that impressive anymore. He's done really well so far but if he starts stripping the best players out of the other franchises then he looks selfish and greedy and is looking like he wants to take the armchair ride. Which creates bitterness from the other franchises. Is this good for Australian rugby ? No. Is it good for Rod Macqueen ? Short term perhaps but once you start looking for the easy way to success, it can strangely become harder.
