Interesting news this. In one sense, very, very bad. It means Leo will just be coming back from a serious injury before a Heineken Cup QF which is hardly ideal preparation. The second row is the real weakness of this Leinster side and if you compare the 2011 vintage with Browne and Toner, I get quite worried.

That said, in terms of development it's cracking. Devin will now be expected to call the shots if he's still around during the 6N and we can expect to see a lot more game time for Mark Flanagan. Perhaps even Steven Skyes will be dusted off now.

I think Sykes was more of a 4 when he was with the Sharks. I always felt he was Leo's long term successor rather than partner so he may get a chance now. In my opinion Cullen is in serious decline as a player now so it may not be such a bad thing that a new player will get a chance to shine over the next 8 weeks and perhaps take Cullen's place.

Least we don't have to see his ugly mug gurning for a while

Skyes baffles me. By all accounts the lad had a serious attitude problem when he first arrived, thinking himself the bee's knees with the WC boys away. Since then, he's had few first team opportunities, failing to seriously impress in any of them. I know he's had injury problems and I'm reluctant to judge him so early considering how little Ross and Strauss did in their first seasons, but he's been a pretty poor piece of business so far.

Irritating.
