Des Hasler wants to bring Wallaby Kurtley Beale to the Bulldogs in 2015

BULLDOGS coach Des Hasler has targeted Wallaby Kurtley Beale as the ideal replacement for former Dally M Medal winner Ben Barba at Canterbury next season. Hasler was spotted watching the Waratahs seal the Super 15 minor premiership at Allianz Stadium last Sunday, with Beale playing inside centre for NSW. The Sunday Telegraph has since learned Canterbury have held talks with Beale about switching codes.
Beale, with 49 Tests for the Wallabies, played rugby league as a schoolboy prior to joining the exclusive St Joseph's College in Hunters Hill, where he was fast-tracked into professional rugby.

But the playmaker has endured a chequered past two seasons in the 15-man code, including being sent home from South Africa after fighting with a Melbourne Rebels teammate and a stint in a rehabilitation centre. A brilliant attacking talent, Beale has spent this Super 15 season playing inside centre despite stating his preference is to play five-eighth. Wallaby star Bernard Foley has a mortgage on the No. 10 jumper.

I really hope this does not happen. You never really know how much truth is behind these reports but if true, it would appear as though Beale will not be satisfied this coming off the bench for the Wallabies for long - i.e. he wants the #12 jersey.

Losing Beale would be a major blow for Australian rugby as he is one of the most exciting players in the country. I actually think he has been one of the biggest factors behind Foley's form and would like to see him start.

but if he really does leave, along with Nick Cummins, that would significantly improve the collective handsomeness of the Wallabies. Like, considerably, my God. There's always a bright side to shiit happens situations in life, and that in itself is a bright side. Isn't it ? Yeah, it's a bright side.

kurtley seems like a bit of a sook to me, why wasn't he contracted through to the world cup though?

Because he was off the rails with the drink down at Melbourne, and the Tahs weren't sure he'd keep it together this year.

I'd hate to see him go, but at the same time I'm a bit annoyed that he's demanding more certainty regarding the Wallabies... I mean it's a f##king representative team! You don't get assured a spot; you have to earn it! If he really wants to be the starting 12 at the World Cup all he needs to do is prove he deserves it by playing the way he has all year and helping the Tahs to a ***le (if the forwards can keep it together).

Because I can tell you that he's definitely not assured any rep positions in League - he might make the bench in Origin, but I don't know at whose expense, but there's no way he'd even be a bench player for the Kangaroos.

Where would he play in league? I see him as a halfback not sure if he could run the right lines as a fullback in league, it seems as if he wants to leave after the world cup regardless which makes me wonder if Folau has brought a bit of a mercenary culture to the wallabies. I don't like players who only commit for a couple of years, to me it shows a lack of real desire.
Anyway I would have Beale at fullback and Folau on the wing, I have a feeling the All Blacks are going to expose Folau's lack of a kicking game at fullback

The talk is they're thinking of putting him at fullback, but I'd have thought he'd be keen on playing half or five-eighth.

I don't really get it though to be honest - he's far less likely to play Origin than he is to be a starter for the Wallabies, and if his big complaint is being denied the big stage I don't see how leaving Super Rugby and the Wallabies for League are going to help him.

Could be the old goosestep, generate interest in league to leverage the Wallabies into playing him. The move doesn't make sense career wise as he's finally found a good side, and is playing some consistently good rugby - not to mention the World Cup is next year, players will be coming back from league (SBW) not going toward it. The only way this moves makes sense is if he's a big baby - hope it's just talk.

Yeah, because Kurtley Beale has been a guarantee on defense at fullback, especially against ABs:

:D

more worried about the wallabies being pinned down in there own half through folaus lack of a decent punt

Yeah it is odd in that his complaint seems to be based around wanting a more solid representative role with the wallabies, and going to League he'd have close to zero chance of making the NSW Origin team, let alone the Kangaroos given the vastly greater talent stocks League has compared with Union here.

For NSW Jarryd Hayne easily keeps him out of Full Back (as much as I love KB, Hayne is a better footballer in almost every way and just as versatile), and you wouldn't put him at centre because Morris, Jennings and Dougan are all better defenders, faster and more powerful, meanwhile at Half the Origin team likes combinations and with Hodgkinson and Reynolds winning the series this year KB would have no chance of dislodging them even if he's arguably as good in terms of general skills (but not defence).

As for the Kangaroos... Well there would be absolutely no spot in that freakishly talented team where he wouldn't have at least 2 players in front of him: Full Back - Inglis and Hayne are both miles better players; halves - Thurston, Cronk, Daley Cherry-Evans, Reynolds, Hodgkinson all keep him out of either 6 or 7; meanwhile at centre his defence is too brittle for centre and he'd be the last guy you'd pick there in league.

OMG! They are such good NRL's players how you are describing? After I read you, I think I should pay more attention to the NRL

Yeah you really should mate. League's a great game in its own right - just different.

If you can, watch State of Origin Game 1 from this year, and a few of the Kangaroos games against England and NZ. The talent on display is nuts because the game is all about ball in hand action. And then of course is the fact that there's vastly greater numbers of people playing Rugby League at all levels in Aus, which makes the rep team pretty freakish.

Also, I forgot to add that for the national team the incumbant full back is actually a guy named Billy Slater, so both Inglis and Hayne often end up at centre and wing (where they're just as bloody devastating).

Yeah, I know Billy Slater, he won the Australia's Greatest Athlete twice. I saw few games of the Kangaroos but as the international level of the League isn't as big as the Union, don't call me much attention. Also the fact that I never played that code, is another reason that conspires against me. I'll watch the State of Origin 1 of this year. Some other great games that you recommend?

Yeah, the opening game of the World Cup between Australia and England was a cracking match, but also definitely watch last year's NRL Grand Final between the mighty Sydney Roosters and the (wo)Manly SeaEngles was an absolute classic (you'll definitely see what I mean about Jennings in that game).

but how does it feel to have played against him ;)

btw to be honest i was expecting something like this to happen to Beale alot off competition in his position in the wallaby team.
