Karmichael Hunt charged with supplying cocaine...

Hang on - does 'no conviction recorded' in Queensland genuinely mean it doesn't show up within Visa police vetting? Presumably it would still impact his ability to work overseas?

While I'm unsure of the visa laws, I know that my drink driving offence (was 18 and dumb) that had "no conviction recorded" does not show up on my visa. However drugs may be a different matter, I had no worries getting into the Philippines and they are very strict on people entering the country.

True, a mate of mine was apparently charged with being drunk in a public place in QLD on New Years. He had no conviction recorded but had a fine of $150 (which is weird as there is no technical criminal fine in NZ for being drunk in a public place)- not sure what the implications are for him. I'd imagine at the worst it means applying through the consulate for a VISA with disclosure (which I believe if you were 18 at the time is no long applicable after 5 years anyway in QLD without doing 30 days or more in prison). In Hunt's case I'd imagine his lawyer probably would have been got it off any kind of criminal conviction history (which I believe conviction not recorded means police retain details - but does not impact on a conviction history outside of vetting). QLD law is confusing as ****.

Trust me, I have worked in a lawfirm for the last 5 years and my father has been a solicitor for 40 years. It is ridiculous how confusing it is.
