Karmichael Hunt charged with supplying cocaine...

Supplying cocaine?! The odd sportsman getting caught taking coke doesn't surprise me, but how the hell does a well-paid professional end up doing that on the side?

yikes!

reading that article it sounds as though they bought it for themselves and some mates..... not like dealing it from his apartment.

It's like going to the dealer, buying some E's for you and your mates.

Sounds like it happened during his time in the AFL, and one would think that he knew he was going to be caught - seeing as thought his mate was charged a month or so ago.

Reds will probably terminate his contract unless he is cleared.

doubt it, he's a big name, and they love the code hoppers... guess it'll depend on if he gets jailtime or not (don't know the laws there)

Been a few leaguies arrested last year as well...

They don't love code-hoppers who deal cocaine.

I get the feeling it's not exactly great PR for a struggling sport in one of the most competitive markets in the world.

I'd say this is more of a negative reflection on league and Aussie rules than on the union game...but also a negative reflection on Australian sport in general. After the Beale thing Australia really didn't need any more bad press.

das

I really think Hunt was just "ballin like a boss" and had a large amount on him , enough to charge him with supply. Media has twisted the story making him out to be some drug dealer.

The guy is skilled , LET HIM PLAY!

Probably should have read the article before commenting, classic error. He's still got nothing on Chris Lewis then ...

Reds considering Hunt's return

The Queensland Reds are reportedly considering allowing Karmichael Hunt to play prior to his court date next week on four charges of allegedly supplying cocaine. The team, supported by RUPA, is arguing that Hunt should be free to return to playing duties as he has not been charged and is assumed innocent, further to the fact that any alleged wrongdoing occurred while under contract to the Goals Coast Suns.

The ARU, however, is wary of the public relations disaster this would create and want Hunt to stay on the sidelines until he fronts court. As both the Reds and ARU contributed to Hunt's $500,000-plus contract, the national body may have added cause to prevent any return to the field.

Is that not a criminal offence though? That'd have jail time? Wasn't he supposedly giving some to friends which is technically supplying.

Pled guilty to possession for personal use, the amount wasnt significant enough to bother prosecuting any further AFAIA.

Also read that an NRL championship ring has allegedly been found amongst the money in a recent drugs bust.... Speculation is it was given as payment.

Stuffed his chances at transferring to American Football in the States then.......................!!

No he hasn't no conviction recorded.....

It is a criminal offence but it's a first time offence, no jail time, no conviction recorded on his record.

Hang on - does 'no conviction recorded' in Queensland genuinely mean it doesn't show up within Visa police vetting? Presumably it would still impact his ability to work overseas?
