Rebels star and one-time potential Wallaby target Jason Woodward will return to New Zealand next year and chase his dream of playing for the All Blacks.

Woodward, who had been on Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie’s radar, has signed a two-year deal with the Wellington-based Hurricanes.

“Wellington is home for me and having the chance to be closer to family and friends was a big part of the decision,†Woodward said.

“There are a few personal family matters, but also this decision allows me to follow my dream.
“Just like any other kid who grows up in New Zealand, I have always wanted to be an All Black.

There's something a it weird about players being signed when there isn't a coach in place yet. You don't want to end up with a Noakes situation. That being said, the Hurricanes have to compensate for losing Leuia, Taylor and Bateman, so Woodward is certainly worthwhile.

That's a shame... liked watching him for the Rebels. I hope for his sake he makes it to the All Blacks, because moving from Melbourne to Wellington would be a bit of a downer otherwise.

Pfffft. Best city in New Zealand my friend. At least he'll be moving to a city where people give a ***** about rugby.

As it is this is fantastic news for the Hurricanes. I was thinking when I heard the news "where the heck is he going to fit in" as we have two All Blacks wings, but then remembered Taylor is moving away. Can't think of a single replacement I'm more happy with. When he announced he was moving I was pretty gutted, as he was in amazing form for Wellington. He's one of those guys who I could see making the All Blacks and having a long career with them.

Don't take it personally mate... I've been to Wellington and it definitely ****s on our equivalent in Canberra (I've always felt for those poor sods who have to go down there to play for the Brumbies... such a f###ing hole), but it still kinda blows in terms of what it offers on a culinary and entertainment front compared to Melbourne. Melbourne definitely isn't as pretty as Sydney and I'd always prefer living here, but there's a lot that the place just does very well.

As for going to a place where people give a **** about Rugby, I guess that's a case of horses for courses... A lot of footy players like the relative anonymity of living in a place like that. Cameron Smith and other guys from the Storm have often said that one of the things that keeps them down there is the fact they get to live in relative anonymity in a world class city.

Call me biased but Melbourne is the greatest city in the world, especially if you love food, coffee and sport. Nothing comes close.

Good luck to Woody, I always thought he'd head "back home" and I'm sure he appreciates the opportunity given to him by the Rebels. I wonder wether his mate Scott Fuglistaller will follow him or stick around.

Have you been to other cities in the world??

Cape Town is not far off, and Miami is also pretty damn awesome, contrary to what David Caruso and Dexter has shown us...

I wasn't a big fan of Melbourne when I visited, though I didn't spend much time in the suburbs. The one thing I noticed above all else is the ridiculous amount of graffiti that seemed to be plastered all over the place - maybe that's just a big city thing all around the world, but I'm comparing it to NZ cities.

I've been all over NZ both islands main cities and country towns, main cities of Europe and NYC, Hawaii, Thailand and Fiji. I guess I'm a little biased :)

graffiti in certain places within the CBD is celebrated as art work. Do a Google image search for Hosier Lane for example. My office has a graffiti wall in our client facing kitchen relating to our product/marketing strategy.

From my time of Melborune i've concluded its full of ****ing hipsters which rules it out of greatest city in the world contest.

It's starting to sound more and more like Wellington, actually...

That's a fair assumption. 2 of my sister in laws live in Wellington I've spent a lot of time over there. If I had to live there, I like the suburb of Hataitai as i'm not fond of houses hanging off the side of hills. The best way for me to describe Melbourne to a kiwi who's never been over here is to tell them to imagine Wellington, but geographically like Christchurch before the earthquakes and with the weather of Northland.

hahah too funny, although there's a fair amount of truth to that, they tend to congregate to certain inner city suburbs.

Bahahaha yeah, Melbourne sure does have a lot of hipsters, but I'm a fan all the same. A lot of great things to do there. I'm lucky enough to live in an awesome spot in Sydney right near the beach and a tonne of great cafes and restaurants (and a cheap cinema to boot), but I'm still a little jealous of all the ally bars and cafes in the city we have only just started developing.

So Jason Woodward... or what's the best city in the world?

:D

So Melbourne is the Aussie New York?

Miami??! Americans hate Miami. It's one of the least American cities, there are more Latins than Americans.

Do I look like an american to you??

I liked the city for what it is and the people who lives there were great. I don't care if americans hate it. They hate everything!!

Well that would be where I've spent my time in melbourne so it checks out. More seriously Melbourne seems like a great city the food is great and I do like the general vibe to it. I think the fact that my sister who lives there is a bit of a hippy contributes to my impression of melbourne being full of hipsters.

I just say it's not a typical American city. It's like a Colombian city or like a Mexican city. I prefer others American cities.
