Singapore and Hong Kong have withdrawn their offer to host matches for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

I can't see how Singapore could of hosted a RWC match we don't really have stadiums here.

Football stadiums?
National stadium seats 55k according to Wikipedia

Edit: Scrap that, just read that they've knocked it down to build a new stadium and the other stadiums only hold around 3K

Surprised Hong Kong aren't hosting one any more

I'm glad Japan is hosting it alone. In my opinion, World Cups tend to work best when held in one territory. France hosting the last World Cup but playing the quarter final in Wales was a joke.

There were also 5 pool matches played outside of France at the 2007 RWC

Wales - Australia in Cardiff
Fiji - Canada in Cardiff
Wales - Japan in Cardiff

Scotland - Romania in Edinburgh
Scotland - New Zealand in Edinburgh

@Ezequiel
and there could have been more. Ireland struck a deal with France to host games in Lansdowne Road but had to give the games back due to the stadium being rebuilt

I welcome these developments! Japan has enough stadiums to host the WC alone.

Those guys deserve it. They put in a heck of a bid last time by all accounts and I'm sure they'll put their all into doing a great job.

Why is there such a wait till the next world cup? It's like 7 years, usually it's about 4 years

What are you talking about? The next one is in England 2015 :? Japan in 2019.

There's one in 2015, one in 2019, a four year gap between each.

My bad guys I didn't know there's a world cup in 2015 I interpreted this thread as the next world cup to be hosted in 2019

Yes, the next RWC is in 2015 in England, when the IRB shose England chose to 2019 RWC to and gave the host rights to Japan

It's about time a minor rugby nation got the chance to show the world what they can do.

Keep it in one place all good

Absolutely.

I wish the folks in England would say this to the RFU and the IRB. As fantastic as the Millenium Stadium is it is not in England and should absolutely not host matches in 2015. England has sufficient stadiums without Cardiff entering the frame and will have the largest capacity of all time since Rugby World Cups started.

The WRU should join forces with Ireland or Scotland to co-host a World Cup rather than hosting games here and there like in 1991, 1999 and 2007. Have a secondtier built at Swansea to make Liberty Stadium close to 30,000. Make Llanelli´s venue around 20,000 (won´t happen as the stadium is new) and also upgrade Newport´s Rodney Parade and possibly Wrexham to give Wales five venues to the standards or better than what was on offer in New Zealand 2011. Ireland can provide seven (at least) or Scotland could provide five (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock or Dundee). Barely as good as what Italy can bid but far, far better than having England yield some matches to Wales in 2015.

If I go to Japan in 2019 there is no way I want to pay to go to Hong Kong or Singapore to see matches. Sub-hosts must only be used if they are utterly neccessary.

To be honest I do not think England are yielding to anyone. There must be some deal or agreement to the RFU,WRU and IRB.

England could host the matches with out a drama and given they are using mostly football stadiums must countries would struggle to match the capacity that England can offer, places that have hosted a world cup or are major football countries will by tend to have the best grounds.

I would say if Italy could get the football stadia on board they would come close terms of potential numbers but then your looking at the level national interest in a WC.

As you say Wales would have to spend money to come even close and that is money I doubt the WRU can afford. As much as I love Rodney parade it would be crazy to spend money on it and then have it empty again for years to come. The same goes for the rest of the Welsh stadiums it is horrible looking at a quater full Liberty at the best of times.
