News.com.au took a bit of a survey on several questions around the issue, interesting results

Interesting indeed , I wonder how representative the sample is

Of course not, I've not read them and won't. I won't waste my time on incorrect opinions.

Now, about Folau winning this?
The silly thing is Bean, I asked you questions about your opinions. To encourage to you better articulate your own opinions. Are those the ones you won't waste time on sharing or elaborating on?

Where did you ask a question?

I think he just wants you to elaberate on your previous comments.

And an opinion cant be incorrect as it is just your point of view rather than stating a fact therefore cant be wrong.

For me the clue to Christianity is in the name, Christ,
yeah, im not going to call myself a christian or step in a church ever again i think.
i'll adhere to the teachings of christ but i am distancing myself from the church and all its hypocrites. i can still believe in jesus without bring called a christian or going to church.
to me the old testament is irrelevant and out dated.

What would Jesus have said about judging people of a different sexuality? Shame Izzy doesn't see the stupidity of position.

I think the lowest number of reponses was over 120k, not a bad sample set
yeah a big number, but not necessarily representative of the population.

I don't know what news.com.au is but it's likely to have a certain demographic, especially in this day and age when people have lots of options for news. But they have to at least be news readers. Then out of the subset of people who are news readers, and a sub subset of them whom read news.com.au, there will be another sub sub subset who are interested in doing the survey - those are likely to be the ones who care about the issue the most, on either side.

News.com.au sounds like a pretty normal site, so probably doesn't attract the progressive audience that would be anti Folau

I'm aware of how stats work, but as far as any uncontrolled survey it's seems as good as any

Ok, all good, Was just elaborating on the nature of my question because your original response had focused on sample size. As you know, sample size is only a relevant concept when the sample is representative of the population.

And, to paraphrase, "as good as any uncontrolled survey" isn't saying much.

Would you care to hazard a stab at what kinds of people responded to the sample? I'd be interested in your perspective.

I don't really know, myself. I'd guess maybe that the typical Australian isn't really sure what to think on the subject, so wouldn't partake in the survey. On the other hand, people that go to standard news sites tend to be your most normal people, in terms of opinions, or old people. Christian's tend to be pretty normal in that sense I'd think. LGBTQ sympathisers tend not to go to standard news sites and a good proportion of them don't like sports so probably don't know about the topic, unless they are activists. But it might not even be australians taking the survey. The survey could turn up on google searches about the Folau fiasco, perhaps, probably not though. But If that were true it could attract those interested in the topic around the world.

I don't really know but I'd guess to transform those survey results into a more representative sample you'd multiply the pro Folau percentages by 2/3 and the anti Folau percentages by 3/2.

What do you reckon?

I think you're over thinking it, I wish I hadn't posted, being uncontrolled makes it one step above anecdotal, so one step above the general conversation here that all

Beans is the peeves of this forum. At first you think he's annoying and serves no purpose. But one day you will realize you need to cherish the moments that he is here.
