Izzy Folau

i find the whole thing depressing, really shakes my faith in humanity...and so frustrating that these people that are casting judgement on others are claiming to be victims

one up side of all this is that people are up n arms against folau and this archaic attitude that gays are wrong.
in nz we have a kid gender transitioning at one of the oldest and richest boys schools in nz.
i cant help but feel this negative press generated from folau is actually causing solidarity for all of society.
also gotta say that because of folau Christianity is taking a beating and im seriously considering denouncing my faith. i dont feel that i want to be associated with all these bigots. homosexuality to me isnt a sin, yet the old testament says it is. im torn.
so all my fafafine cousins are going to hell? i'd rather be with them for eternity than hanging out with folau and his sycophants for a minute.

I read that story about Christs College last night, how cool is that! have to say i was surprised, my old school south island mentality was that Christs would be one of the last places to be so inclusive but am pleasantly surprised

yes thank you folau for pointing out the bigotry out there so that the rest of society can avoid it.

The divide in Australia seems to be split down the middle.

This divisive bullshit is good for no one.

News.com.au took a bit of a survey on several questions around the issue, interesting results

i just cant see how they'll loose, they must have spent every second of the two or three weeks between putting him on notice and firing him making sure their case was bullet proof

Common sense says he loses but things seem to, in general, be going to ****. Brexit, Trump and the lurch to ultra-conservatism.

except the gays and trans kids of course

Presumably Folau has taken some pretty strong legal advice to the contrary. No such thing as a guaranteed outcome when the lawyers get involved, may just come down to the calibre of the legal team each side hires.

ARU going down in flames over this one.
Welcome back Bean, nice to see your positivity back on our pages.

Of course not, I've not read them and won't. I won't waste my time on incorrect opinions.

Now, about Folau winning this?

What about the one where you said if we disagree with anyone at all (let's invoke Godwins Law and say Nazis) we are bigots. Because reasons...

It is really up to you if you wish to do this or be an example of how Christianity can still relate to today's society and not persecute gays or anyone/anything else.

It says a lot of things in the old testament (working on Sabbath, condoning genocide, eating shellfish, alsorts) and it's on the reader to make their own mind as to it's purpose. For me the clue to Christianity is in the name, Christ, and this is a guy who told everyone to be nice to each other whilst hanging out with the poor, sick, prostitutes, and other maligned members of society. Doesn't strike me as a guy who would approve of condemning anyone for something they haven't chosen, and even some things they have.

There is also a school in Wellington - wellington high or Wellington college, whichever is the all boys school - where a couple of students - one gay, one trans - have started a group called rainbow youth, to allow different kinds of people to feel included and to educate others. And apparently they don't really get homophobic remarks against them. They get some but only jokes that are a bit offensive but weren't delivered with that intent.

How times have changed. I went to an all boys school and there were only three words used as insults (after third form when w anker was still an insult): homo, f aggot, and gay.

I agree re the upside, the downside is the christians who are becoming more anti-gay. When things get tense people jump off the fence and take a side. That's my concern.

Haha Yeah, he's implying gays and trans are lower than Australians , that's almost worse than saying they're destined for hell
