Ireland v South Africa

Good win for Ireland !

though i'm largely disapointed by SA , poor game , no creativity, defenitly too much kicking , Morne Steyn was a failure on this game and against France ...Bekker can't be compared to Bakkies defenitly ...SA has played even worse than against France i felt...

So maybe SA was running out of gas (though i do not think that is an excuse as every year they played in autumn in NH so...) but overall , i think SA has some problems to solve . I'm defenitly surprise as i have seen 3 on 4 of the tri-nations game of SA against black and they were defenitly in a better form ...Or the opposition was not so high :p ...

Ireland has played a serious game and they could have scored much more than they did . Sexton has done a great match and i think O'gara can leave irish team with peace in mind ;) i'm more and more impressed by kearney , really nice player ...as Traille on Friday the 13th , he had a tough job today and he didi it very well .

I'm waiting for Wales-Australia and France-AB to really see if NH has defenitly leveled up ...

Thought Heaslip was a strange choice for the International Player of the Year shortlist but I just remembered how unreal he's been in internationals this year and again today.

George Hook just said it on RTÉ, the Saffers learned during the Summer that kicking the ball to Kearney for 80 minutes doesn't win a match.

Earls could cover Flanker well off the bench (lols as they say).

O'Connel was class.

And as per usaual.....TOMMY BOWE TOMMY BOWE TOMMY BOWE!!!

Apparantly Saffers just got awarded team of the year. Congrats to them. They do deserve it for their year (up untill theis tour).

Rob Kearney was absolutely splendid today. I don't remember him making a single mistake, and the number of high-balls he took was outstanding. He is some player. Now all we need is a Wales/France one-two over the antipodeans to make it a Northern Hemisphere clean-sweep!

GO ON BOYOS!!!!!

Well deserved win to Ireland, thankfully we learnt a few lessons.

I think if the coach continues to pick overseas players for next year, then we'll dominate again, but also lets hope he rests key players.

Fingers gnawed down to the second knuckle, so there goes my career as an international concert pianist. Can still type with the stumps.

Thought SA were excellent in first half. They knew how to draw in Irish defenders and when to spin it out - some nice stuff through the hands. If the lineout was working they would have been away, but then they wouldn't have had that awesome scrum dominance and we know how that worked out in the second half.

I was fearing a big loss, but in the end the Boks were out on their feet - no spark, no confidence.

Ireland were OK. Sexton did fine, but Kidney seems to have a conservative plan for the backs and when they do try to break out the forwards haven't done the work to draw in defenders so it ends in chaos/turnover. POC and Heaslip had big games. TOL and Reddan are very up and down at scrum half - thought Strings might have stopped the nonsense.

p.s. Monkeypigeon, I hope your tummy gets better before Santa gets here. ;)

Apparantly Declan Kidney has been given coach of the year.

I dunno where RTÉ are getting this from coz I can't find it om the interweb.

Fair enough if you ask me. He's unbeaten this calendar year.

It's on the IRFU's website now

He's done a terrific job with Ireland thus far. There's plenty more work to do too which is encouraging. The scrum needs radical attention, clearing out the breakdown can be improved significantly and the backline need to play more heads up rugby. On the plus side Earls, Healy, Sexton, Cronin and O'Brien have bedded in during the last three games and the lineout is magnificent.

IRB have it up now.

South Africa team of the year.
Declan Kidney coach of the year.

When are they giving BOD player of the year?

A good win, with a nail biting finish, but not our best performance of the year. The lineout was better than SA's, but the scrum was once more embarrassing. Breakdown was much better than against Australia, but the biggest difference was Sexton at 10. Made several big tackles, and didn't really put a foot wrong all day, completely outclassed his opposite number.

Kearney had a great game, but SA didn't half play right in to his hands. "Let's bombard the best player uner the high ball in the world with highballs!" - good one Morne/PdV/whoever. Also encouraging to see we were willing to counterattack instead of constantly lumping the ball down field and willing to attack from deep, need to be more clinical when we get the ball deep into opposition 22.

Well done to Sexton, Earls, Healy and O'Brien. Good to see we can both pick up and coming players and be competitive.

O'Connell showed he is no myth, both in the line out and winning penalties when the ball goes to the floor. Hope he keeps coming back to that 6N form.

Well done DK too! Won every game he took charge of in 2009 except for the draw against Australia.

Man Kidney's CV doesn't look too bad does it
-U19's World Cup in 1998
-2 Heineken Cup's
-Triple Crown
-6 Nations GrandSlam
-Churchill Cup
-Unbeaten in a Calender year
-2009 IRB Coach of the Year
- (This space is for when he win's the WC)

All that and yet it would be hard to find a more modest man.

Right just back from the game so I'll make a few points. I'll keep them breif enough:

1) South Africa were tactically naive. Seriously, who kicks that much high ball at Rob Kearney. Didn't learn their lesson from the Lions.

2) Irish lineout was on top oddly enough. Build a good platform for Sexton. Pretty essential actually, when you consider how atrocious the Scrum was

3) Our Flyhalf is better than theirs. Choke you say? Bah.

4) BOD for world player of the year. Some great breaks and what a tackle at the end! DuPreez didn't really impress me today in all honesty

5) Healy was immense in the loose. His tackle on Habana in the first half set the tone for a pretty impressive physical display by the Irish forwards

6) 3 lads earned only their second caps today. Bodes well for Ireland and Leinster now that I come to think of it.

7) T'was quite cold.

Hard luck South Africa. Still thank god we won. After all the talk on these forums over the past week a loss would have been a national disaster.

Congrats Ireland, great game. I was worried in the last 5mins that SA were going to snatch the game, glad Ireland managed to hang on in there, as they fully deserved the game. The conditions really helped to create the atmosphere, an eery misty Croke Park looked awesome!

Told you we'd win.

Was at the game so I'll watch the replay in the morning.

Really enjoyed it. Was seriously cold.

Picture I found of Heaslip on Auntie pretty much sums it up;

Don't go to Croker in your underpants. BOD worship doesn't surround you with a Readybrek glow. And the girls laugh at acorn-cock syndrome.
