Ireland v South Africa - 05.11.22

just to veer off topic a bit, how good is the Ireland A side? Is it similar to earlier in the year, when it was pretty much the next In line after the top 23?

I think 12 of the starting 15 were involved in an A game over the summer. It's a decent enough side but the ABXV seems stronger than the MAB.

Henshaw now a doubt for tomorrow, so McCloskey in and one of Frawley or Hume will probably be pulled from tonight to bench instead.

Henshaw definitely out with McCloskey replacing him. Jimmy O'Brien takes McCloskey's place on the bench

McCloskey is in the form of his life right now. I think he's a far better rounded player than he was when he last played for Ireland.

Actually I don't think the ABXV is stronger than the maori all blacks.

For instance, Maori all blacks had lomax, Harmon, weber who are now with the all blacks squad; grace, zarn Sullivan who are injured but otherwise would probably be in the ABXV; Delaney, proctor who should probably be in this side but the powers that be wanted to develop some other players.

The ABXV is, similar to what the maori all blacks were, a team comprised of players not in the all blacks squad, the exception being Roger tuivasa-sheck (who, while in the all blacks squad, isn't so in merit - he is a development player) and Brayden ennor who have been released from the all blacks. The maori all blacks were restricted to players who have some maori blood, but was otherwise the best players available (although they gave their whole, small, squad a run over the two games). The ABXV doesn't have the same restriction but also isn't the best players available - it is a mix between players who are the next cab off the rank for the all blacks, and inexperienced players who have been picked for development purposes. Dev Players like Gallagher, Gardner, Leo-willie, and Brewis wouldn't have made the maori all blacks if eligible

South Africa have the stronger 23 and Ireland might be a little under cooked. That should be telling. I can't remember the last time the Saffas actually turned up to play in Dublin though so i'll go with an Ireland win.

Looking forward to seeing the Ulster backs in a game like this.

Will be a tough go. Looking forward to seeing some lads like Baloucoune, but not mad about Murray starting and not expecting much impact from the bench apart from Conan and JGP.

Nice precursor to next year's pool B RWC game. Shame Pollard's not playing.

That bright shade of green of their Ireland tops during the anthem is quality.

Should just wear that shade for both home and away kits
