Ireland v Argentina 21/11/21

I'm still trying to work out the point of having POM on the bench in a test like this and I haven't come up with anything. Same for Earls really, what do they get out of it?

Ringrose should have gotten a rest, especially since he got a nasty blow on the head early on. Disappointed for Hume.

It is very questionable squad management.
No issues keeping it going if game meant something but Argentina are poor and equally we discover little.

Keenan at 15. I would prefer maybe Zebo just to see someone different but equally no issues letting Keenan adapt more.
Lowe too I can accept as realistically he has been terrible up until about 2 weeks ago in green and lets see him continue find his feet at this level.
RB deserves shot.
9 & 10. Not upset regards 10 as it is right but more reason it is happening.
9 is tricky.
Overall while it is easy to slate Farrell for lack of changes you would forget he has probably handed put mpre 1st time caps over an opening 2 year period than most head coaches

I think its also important to remember that Ireland while playing two/three very impressive games, we haven't made it a consistent thing yet. A few more good performances and its more settled etc but as of right now, end the autumn with a perfect record and build from there. This game is still a challenge and a big game for Ireland going forwards
I like the mentality of having to earn an international cap by being better than the man ahead of you, screw handouts.

Agreed with both points above. I guess we just want to develop this game plan with our starting players and get them more comfortable with it. I'd imagine this type of attacking strategy, with many players playing a 'playmaker' role and forwards having a lot of handling responsibility, it would be difficult to chop and change a lot and keep the momentum going. The question is for players like Zebo, Hume etc - if not now, then when? Throw them in at the deep end in France when we have injuries? 2nd Test in NZ in the summer? Not sure I'd be as confident singing Hume's praises at that point..

To be fair, we did look super fresh and although that game would have taken a lot out of us - I reckon the confidence we got overrides that. I'm sure they'd be buzzing to get out again and play the same way (if only!)

Conan ruled out with injury. POM starts at 6, Doris shifts to 8 and Baird comes onto the bench.

Suggests Coombes was never in contention presumably due to his illness.

Hope it's not serious for Conan, he's finally showing people the player he is.

Two uuge losses from last week.

On the way now, little bit nervous, without Johnny we become a side that can be beaten by an ordinary side having a big game which Argentina are more than capable of, especially against a side they don't like.

Coombes enroute to South Africa. Was agreed he'd benefit more from there than being a reserve who was unlikely to play today. Obviously hindsight is great thing.

Rumors Healy a late call too and Kilcoyne may ve on bench

RTE listing Baird as the secondrow sub and Beirne as the backrow sub, right decision. Baird at flanker is a great idea on paper but doesn't seem to work at all in practice.

Another late change, Beirne in for Henderson and Timoney on the bench, not ideal.
