Ireland under 20s 6 Nations thread

Left two years ago. They were destroyed in the senior cup by a St.Michael's team which featured Cathal Marsh and Luke McGrath at halfback. Marsh gave the best performance I've ever seen by a flyhalf at that level that day. Marsh is quite slight but he's unbelieveably talented. If he can add some muscle to his frame, he has a big future in my opinion.

Yeah seen Marsh a few times would agree with that.

Yup agree about Marsh. Super passer of the ball and great at putting runners through gaps. Needs to bulk up, not sure about his kicking either. Himself and Hanrahan were brilliant last season against England even though England hammered Ireland.

The Welsh fullback Ross Jones went to school in Dublin (Castleknock College). He was flyhalf on the same Castleknock team as Ireland's starting tighthead Peter Reilly (who was a hooker on his schools cup team).

Don't you dare poach him;)

Nah, he's a good lad. Start him against France this year just be be safe.
He is from out west I think, so he is ours anyway, unless Ireland need some Turks.

Yeah, I remember last year when he got left out for a lot of it behind the Ulster 2 that his kicking was mentioned as a reason. Can't be a reason atm, Jackson's been kicking like dogshit. I have faith in the Ginger Messiah, but am not terribly confident of him going well tomorrow. Err. Today by now.

That's the Taff side, don't really know much about them. Wales are generally fairly handy at this level.

Gotta admit that I don't know much about many of those players, although with so many Jones', Evans' etc. even I become unsure if I've seen them play before or not lol.

Up front, I've heard very good things about Will Griff John. Kirby Myhill is already a very good player imo, probably the standout in this years Wales squad. Screech is another very promising player at lock. In the backs, Sam Davies is well thought of and if he's anything like his father then he'll be an exciting player. I've heard of Iolo Evans and Ross Jones, but can't think exactly where I've seen them play.

I'm a little disapointed that Matthew Morgan and a few others playing at the regions aren't involved. Obviously Harry Robinson is involved with the main squad, but why not include Morgan considering the O's still have Biggar available?

Should be an interesting match.

Not sure about Iolo Evans. I think that we might get a bit more out of Luke Morgan, who has been raising eyebrows in the WP this season.
Nipper et al will be considered for the JWC, hopefully he will get time with the Ospreys soon.

I think he only ever qualified on residency, and I'm not certain if that holds if you move away from the country without being capped. Apparently Dan Thomas is the one you want to cap most against France...

I've only seen him play once if I remember correctly but I was really impressed with him (plus I think he's only 18-ish), no need to be worried about him in my opinion.

Perhaps I'm being harsh on Jackson because I know how good his replacement is but I've never seen him control a game. Hopefully he improves on his poor start so far.

Irish lineout looking pretty bloody shocking early on.

I have. I have also seen his kicking go backwards in his time in Ulster, and am getting increasingly concerned.

To be honest, I bought into the hype about how good he is about two years ago (he must be good if he's better than Marsh). He's shown flashes but nothing more than that. James McKinney looks a better nordie flyhalf to me.

Jack Conan and Iain Henderson have started well.

Wash your fecking mouth off! No badmouthing the ginger messiah.

Ok, seriously, Jackson has some rough edges and needs to improve his boot - but he's got far better vision, hands and running than McKinney. If Jackson doesn't turn into a better player than McKinney (he already is but I know what you mean) I'll be surprised.

edit: Sweet christ he's lost confidence in his kicking. Also, great Mini-Mick scrum.
