Ireland under 20s 6 Nations thread

I only saw the first half before my stream died. Ireland were shocking in the opening 40. From Scannell stupidly taking a quick tap when the scores were tied, Layden deeming kicking the ball 5 yards from the line a better option than passing it and Hanrahan running blindly into traffic constantly, Ireland had no momentum. Jackson was better than his last couple of games but he still has an annoying habit of overplaying a pass back inside rather than spinning it wide.

Three games in, we're getting a clearer picture of who's likely to make it from this team. In the pack both Gilsenan and Henderson look like very good prospects. Behind the scrum, Hanrahan and Farrell are the pick of the bunch. Those four could step up to Pro 12 rugby immediately quite comfortably. McGrath, Conan, Jackson (based on his reputation) and Layden look as though they can have big, possibly international careers with some development. McCall, Marsh, Marmion and Qualter appear set for provincial careers. Scannell, Conneely, Coghlan and Coughlan-Murray have been slightly disappointing based on their reputations before the tournament.

Blame Doak I think. It was the the Ulster move of choice just when Jackson was breaking through and I think he got overcoached. He needs to spend some quality time with our new Terblanche coached backline... although I'm sure his time holding tackle bags for Kidney will have improved him no end ;)

We won't be causing England any problems based on this performance. Much like the in Welsh game, we've been unable to capitalise on having far more possession and territory than our opposition.

Just as I say that, Henderson knocks on in the lineout.

Luje McGrath under the posts off the base of a scrum, the sexy beast.

Baffled by the TMO there.

Maybe I'm wrong, but surely either that was a try (tough call - I would've given it), or it went backwards...so how it ended as a Scotland scrum I do not know.

That said, this ref doesn't seem to know how knock-ons work. Everytime a ball touches the ground it seems to be a scrum, regardless of which way the ball moves or who it moves off.

Edit: ball literally went about two metres back out of some guys hands and landed on the floor. Scrum. WTF?

Possible double movement.

Turgid game. The Irish backs had an infuriating tendancy of putting boot to ball, even when in Scotland's 22 or when having an overlap. I was impressed with McCall, Henderson, Gilsenan, Hanrahan and not much else. Jackson, McGrath, Layden and Conan showed flashes of promise too.
