Ireland RWC 11 Thread

Trimble can play in midfield too so I'd say he'll make the squad. Hes a decent player. Not great but solid.

Staph I was at that Italian game and not watching a highlight reel - fact is he was poor and fair enough you think he was being made a scapegoat but how many caps/chances does he want???

And my point is simple I can agree he played well against England but it like Earls at 15 (and people here know I don't attack Munster guys) I know Keith isn't a 15 at international level and on that day everything for Ireland was going right and English had nothing going good.

I've no doubt Trimble will make the squad but just pointing out I unsure if he at level of been a starter.

For as simplistic a measure as it is (and not a true measure I know - there's more to a wingers job than scoring tries) let's just take a look at the try scoring stats of the 3 wingers in question in competitive games (there's a fairly even standard in the competitive games, the friendlies not so much). In that I'm including 6 Nations, RWCs and AIs.

Trimble:
Starts - 15
Subs - 5
Tries - 2

Fitzy:
Starts - 12
Subs - 2
Tries - 2

Earls:
Starts - 9
Subs - 4
Tries - 3

In this department the tiering would have to be Earls, Fitzy, Trimble. The only things I think Trimble offers that the other 2 don't are physicality and aerial ability - Trimble seemed a good restart option recently. My preference coincidentally matches the above though. I think Fitzy is the best defensive option and Earls the best attacking option. That leaves Trimble sort of hanging around the back somewhere I'm afraid.

If you include friendlies before the 6 n Earls had a record of 9 starts 7 tries.

Also staph fitzgeralds defense has been good he's the best defensive wing after Bowe we have.

A lot of pages to look through, so in short.

What are you guys expecting from the 'warm-up' match against Scotland?

Obviously I'm looking forward to more of the same from the build-up to the last RWC :D

want to see young or previously injured players tested for the WC to see if theyre worthy

For me a loss is unacceptable despit expecting some experimentation.

I'd like to see new combo's and some nice rugyb or even just bits of it, as ginger said I think a loss is unacceptable we should be looking at winning as many games as we can in these test to gain momentum.

**** sake kids, its Scotland we are playing not Romania.

If we dont put out a full team, and they do, we shold be expecting to lose

We haven't built any form of yet. These warm-up games need to be about building form and establishing the game plan. Mucking around with that in the Wales and Scotland games in the 6Ns and we need to make sure the team are comfortable with the game plan and the selection. We can bring in fringe players as games go on, but we need to be starting with our full side and bed the whole set-up down.

squad is out boys

I think it the right call in my opinion and well he picked a good squad and it's good form has been rewarded.

i thought luke fitzgerald proved why he should be included on Saturday. If TOL having a terrible performance on Saturday caused him to be dropped, why didnt the same happen to Keith Earls?

i didnt see fitzy in there either though however probaly a just call

Nice squad. No O'Leary which is good, but Buckley is going.
