Ireland, 2013 Six Nations

I agree with Cmac he will probably retire after the lions tour why could Kidney wait a few months I'd say drico is gutted...

Don't agree with it at all, O'Driscoll plays unless he his forced not to, if it wasn't for him Ireland wouldn't have that Grand slam and probably none of the triple crowns either. Irish rugby for the last ten years has been Brian O'Driscoll and Declan Kidney is nothing more than a gobshite who is probably a little bit jealous. Brian O'Discoll should have been Ireland captain until the day he retired and this move by Kidney is hugely disrespectful.

I'd say Heaslip is embarrassed about it too to be honest.

Would you like to play against a ****** of O'Driscoll?

I'd rather play against a ****** O'Driscoll than a confident O'Driscoll, woulda been nice if he could have fallen back on the Leinster captaincy but he doesn't even have that

Agree with Irelandfan. O'Driscoll is Irelands captain and should have remained Irelands captain. until he retired like Keith Wood and so many before him, it is a disrespectful and cowardly act against the best player Ireland have ever produced.

BOD is the captain. That's how it's always been and how it should have remained to the Last. There is nothing in that **** Kidney.

You are ridicuously melodramatic I'm not saying its the right thing but there's no need to be sø upset about as to say it's a cowardly decision? Ott.

Kidney sounded like he was gunna make Drico captian once he got himself right but then why would he do that to heaslip? hand him the captaincy then just cut it off?

BOD has lead Ireland for a Decade..there is six months left in him internationally , the greatest Irish player of this generation possibly ever.

And with that much time left that auld gobshite Kidney could not wait.

I've never been more annoyed. Not only does he make shocking decisions picking a team he clearly has absolute shite skills at man management.

All Hail Bod.

Well, I can't really say it makes much sense. He'll still more than likely be our starting 13, so stripping him of the captaincy at this stage of his careers is highly unusual. Unless of course this means that Kidney is going with someone else at outside centre.

It wouldn't surprise me if Kidney benched Drico and kept earls 13, I would no doubt hang myself but I wouldn't be surprised...

(This thread is too damn interesting I have a history module exam tomorrow and I think I have posted more than i ever had before on a non-match night)

If he drops BOD that'll be a different story, yes it's an odd call honestly I think he'll be better for it. Despite not being the man leading the team out he'll still be massively important in everything the team dose all the calls made.

I do i agree he should have been left captain but not as ****** about it as a lot seem to be.

Uhm, given the predictably negative reaction from a lot of Irish fans and sectors of the Irish press, wouldn't the cowardly thing to have done be ignore his feeling Ireland needed to move forwards with the captaincy and name O'Driscoll to avoid all this?

I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but cowardly? It's about the single most ballsy thing Kidney's done since... actually, since sticking Zebo in at 15 in the Autumn, that was pretty ballsy.

No, it's cowardly the way he went about it he's doing the usual Kidney think of saying a whole load of nothing. Had he gone out and said exactly why he did it it would be different but as usual he has tiptoed around the question.

I can understand the choice - Ireland need to test other centres out, so BOD isn't necessarily guaranteed to start every game, and couple that with him just coming back from injury...

Its a huge amount of disrespect from Kidney in my opinion. I'm also not 100% sure if Ireland had all back row options he would be a guaranteed starter. He hasn't reached the same peaks in performance that he delivered during 2009 and has been a passenger in many of Ireland tests since the grand slam. For me he hasn't earned the honour and the jury is very much still out on him as a captain and to certain degree his playing ability.

Why do people think Heaslip isn't playing well? Is it cause he's no longer a highlights reel player? He's an incredibly effective player and acts as another playmaker. He's also the top tackler in the H Cup with 60 missing none.

The Lions starting 8 if Gatland has any sense.

Heaslip is one helluva player. That kid Faletau will nver be half the player Heaslip is.[/exaggeration]

Heaslip is probably going to be playing for Ireland until the next World Cup, BOD ain't. How is this disrespecting him? It means he can concentrate on his own game. I'm happy with it. Ballsy move by Kidney, let's hope for more in terms of the match day squad.

BS. He's streets ahead of any other 8 in the country.
