IRB Women's World Cup 2014

Really had a chance there, but started going backwards, chance for a consolation try I guess.

Young side this Canadian team though and also missing a few of their pro players.

Just lacked composure where England have experience... 4years time they will be immense.

England world champs.... Now for the next one. :)

Are you going to say anything positive about the game mate?

Good try by Scarrett, that's gotta be game. Shame for Canada, they've been brilliant all tournament.

Brave in the air from both 15's there.

I prefer to comment on what I'm seeing, not putting a positive spin on it. Some of the things need to be worked out of the game, regardless of which team is playing. If it's something that you would spend lots of time training not to do at school, it's the same for internationals. It would have been a positive run down the wing but inaccuracy causes that chance to end without pressure being applied.

As it is, great for England to finally win the final, they've fallen at the last hurdle so many times in the past. Canada look good in the scrum and the breakdown and I see them continuing to be contenders in the future.

No need to put a positive spin on it, just saying there were tons of excellent things from both sides, and those mistakes were small in the bigger picture of what both sides were doing. I think skill wise the game was pretty impressive.

***edit: sorry mate, not meaning that to come across as having a pop... Just saying I think it's been a good game even with the mistakes.

England deserved winners, they suffocated the Canadian attack and took a couple of very well worked tries. Runner's up no longer got to feel good for some of the older members of the squad who were members of the last sides that got close and were denied.

Harvey wins player of the year, great for her, consolation for a great campaign by the team as a whole as well.

Tad disappointed in how the squad reacted at the end where they went into themselves and did not bother to shake hands with the Canadians for some time after the end of the game....if at all as had to switch off!!!

The sky broadcast showed the English girls waiting for Canada, who were in a very long huddle conversation. Half the English were formed in a tunnel, waited, but Canada were still in debrief mode. So the English led three cheers for Canada even though they did not go to the tunnel.

That is very good to hear that it happened after I switched off.........what I saw was the Canadians going into a huddle as the English concentrated on self congratulations. No big deal but would have thought that the proper thing to have done would have been to shake hands and then huddle!!

I suppose it always going to be like that for finals though.

Well done England!!!! I thought they could (and probably should) have won by more, but Canada pushed them as far as they could. Certainly a team to watch in the future. All round, a good advert for the womens game generally, with deserved winners. Hopefully this will act as a springboard for girls to have a serious look at rugby as a sport. Hopefully there'll be four groups for the next WRWC in 3 years (been brought forward 1 year). Rumour has it that Limerick is the favourite to host.
I think we'll all agree that rugby creates a great atmosphere to play in and brilliant camaraderie as well. Perhaps its because you know you've put yourself on the line for your mates but in the bar afterwards, all is well with the world.

"Kick it over for 3", and he's English, God, you're not helping with the clichés there man !

Again congrats England, again most probably the best team at the Cup.
This isn't a backhanded comment, just a remark, but it's interesting how Ireland got everybody rid of NZ, England in particular as they turned out to have won it all, and then England gets Ireland, while Canada rids England of France for a potential final against them at home. Not taking anything away from England, just thought about it the other day, interesting and peculiar turn of events...
ENGLAND STOLE IT !!! THEY GOT THE EASIEST RIDE AND DON'T DESERVE THE CUP !! RARRRRRR !!!!!!!! RARRRRRRR !!!!!!!

haha, I'm sorry, don't know what got over me there it's the darnest thing I just......

hehehe, will do Scotty :D I like your thinkin' there. I'm sure old Cusiter could use a little bit of heavy chronic these days...straight through the pipe though, no filter. Old school hardcore shieet, dayummm son.
Hey Scotty, tell me, is it common for youngsters to smoke up, up there in the Highlands ? lots of kids roll up little sheets and pass around and suddenly look like sloths and start eating a lot of potato chip bags (well not the bags per se, what's inside) ?

i dont live in the highlands so i dont really know i dont think so as the city's up there are small comparing to the citys in the south. but if anyone does do that in scotland they're all most likely working class people, unless if they're in glasgow. (not aiming at anyone in particular)

Well you're right of course but I suppose that at the end of the day, it's down to who turns up for each game. NZ and dare I say even France had their chances and failed to take them. ;) But it's great that you're so magnanimous in defeat
Seriously as it happens I think the French played well and I'm sure they'll have their chances again - we just need more teams to make the tournament bigger & better next time.

Oh and it's Northern English, not just English ha ha ha. For those that dont know where that is, its a little bit south of Hadrians Wall (and that's not Oxfordshire although most people from the South might think that). Maybe the North & Midlands should go for Independance as well.

Ooooooo topical.....

^ interesting. I definitely agree with Magali Harvey obviously and Emily Scarratt. Koita and N'Diaye were absolute keepers, no doubt. That Canadian loosehead is a fkng monster, and the Tighthead was great too. Canada have the best scrum in the world, but that Marie-Pier Pinault-Reid is just scary. Sandrine Agricole I agree was probably the best, although it's incredibly ironic she's the one who single-handedly lost us a chance to make the final if we're honest. Her penalty kicking was just disastrous from start to finish in this cup.
I'd like to offer a couple of modifications:
France winger Lièvre has tremendous pace and maybe could get that 11 spot, just an arrow; and my personal favorite Marjorie Mayans at 12. Her one-on-one defense was simply epic, and game-saving often, very often. She had very good moments on attack too, but some bad ones also tbf.

It does seem odd that only 2 England players are on the list. Either means England are being overlooked or they perform better than the sum of their parts.
