Injury forces Blues' Gary Powell to retire

Cardiff Blues' front row forward Gary Powell has been forced to retire through injury.

The 31-year-old has not played since tearing an Achilles in March during the 29-20 Magners League defeat to Leinster.

"I have worked extremely hard to overcome this injury," said Powell.

"But in the end I have been advised by my consultant that my Achilles will not stand up to the demands of the rugby, which is hugely disappointing.

31 is when you should be hitting your peek as a prop too, sad for the guy.

Wasted his talent at times. When he got onto the scene he was seen as the next Welsh tighthead, never progressed and to be honest when he played for the Blues in more recent times he was to be frank dire. Sad times tho as he retires.
