How to "unlock" the B&I Lions Tour in Rugby08

The only way to have a Lions Tour is in Sanzar MUP (MUP09 World Club Edition) where you will have all the teams, and you just play the games as scheduled, just not in the mode of the game. Or you play 06!

hehe... that's what i used to do... like bring back the old, traditional tours... like springboks touring new zealand, and i just simply play in "play now" mode and pretend its a full scale tour.

ay.... it's the only rugby game out there. a bit off topic now... i wonder if konami would try to make a rugby game. if pro evo soccer is anything to go by they'll definitely bring the realism to the game. unlike fifa, pro evo is a much better game, only downside is there's no licensing, or they take whatever they can get for the season i.e. one year its premiership rights, the next its serie a... etc.

LOL with rugby 08, you certainly have to pretend.. pretend that it's rugby.[/b]

Isnt beach rugby real rugby? It certainly looks like beach rugby the way they run. :p

I was thinking how to get the Tour to work. I think it's something to do with dc.english. My meaning is that, if you take out the 'lions' text block to get the Lions text after it, i think that there i either no text there (so you have an invisible path), or it's in the wrong place. I might experiment and remove the text for one of the tournaments and see if it is still there to select with it's path. Because if it isn't, then perhaps the Lions Tour text is in the wrong place. Notice the order of the text for the tournament menu.

The key thing for me is that in the trophy cabinet, you have text appear for the Lions tours and you can put graphics there and they will load. There is no unlocking xml for tournaments like there is for teams.. but the text is what's missing, so it's either the .rfe file, or the text is missing or is masked in some way. It makes sense that there is no Lions team, and that you have to edit something to get it. If they did not put the Lions in the game as such to be unlockable, then neither is the tour. It must be unlockable.. the case is that what is it like when you do?

Good luck mate, let us know how it goes!

So you mean to say that there is text for the 3 Lions' tours to display in the trophy cabinet?

Re: above post.

I've just had a look at the dc.english file again and I've found 2 sets of the 3 Lions' Tours. One has just a space and a vertical bar seperating the various tournaments.

The other one has various numbers and symbols, and they are all in a particular number order, with the Lions' tours being assigned various symbols, and well as an available Bledisloe Cup option.

Finally, within neither of these two sets for tournaments could I find any mention of the Guinness Premiership. I found it within its own area in the dc.english file, next to a "Guinness Premiership Point System" block.

On my version, i have text for the lions tour 'trophies' after you complete it. In the actual graphics file, they are transparent, as well as some others. I assume it's Bledisloe Cup or something.

The key is that in the tournament logo graphics file 216da.fsh there is no graphic for Lions Tour or 10 Nations, just the 6 default ones. I am thinking that the lions tour is there, but you have to load it with the path of another tournament. It cannot be unlocked, it has to be added as a mod probably, rather like they leave in files with licensed balls. They are not for the competition.

I Found these values in d22f174aaaa1d36dbd5482f671a299d7.xml

Well, i know for a fact that 'fe' stands for 'front end' which would be menu graphics. I saw these too, but can't figure out how or what they can be used for. If Lions Tour can be unlocked, it won't have a tournament logo, like the others have. I don't think it is unlockable, or playable. We are very lucky we can get the kits to work, and that is because we got them from a different game.

Yes but looking at the rfe files themselves, i think they're more to do with the menu format, like selecting different options within the menu.

Again, it's not quite what were after.

EDIT: If you know there are paths for tournaments, can you compare between the paths from 06 with the ones from 08? Maybe if you are able to replicate what is required in 06 to fit the 08 format then it may work. The 06 version has the lions tour, so what could be done is compare the paths for any tournaments that are in both games.

Also, for the tournament .fsh, i think you can add the Lions tour logo anyway. All you'd need is the code number that's needed within that .fsh, again probably taking from the example in 06.

Right, here is the basic file you will need for Lions Tour. It replaces the schedule for the 2006 6 Nations, so you can still play the 2007 (which has been updated for 2009) as it is.

http://files.filefront.com/LionsTour2009fi...;/fileinfo.html

I have made it from the 6 Nations, and it has 6 teams, so it fills all the 15 fixtures.. i have tried to make it as realistic as possible, so that the opponents of the Lions also play warm-ups, and so do South Africa.. so you can actually have a fully playable Lions Tour with all the teams!

The schedule dates are not correct, because i am not sure if it will play the fixtures if we change the month away from February and March. We can test this, but for the moment i just wanted to try this.

In this download, there is also the be29.xml which makes the Lions appear in game, if you don't have it already. You will need the dc.english text-fix also. I have updated the graphics for my mods, so that the lions have updated HD graphics to match all other teams.

Please test this and give me your critique. It's not finished, but it's a pretty good idea of what we can do.

Framework is there, just would be perfect if the scheduling could be sorted, and other details; like I played the Stormers in Bloemfontein rather than CT...

That's very easy to fix. When you are looking at numbers, digits and codes, it is hard to keep it all together without getting confused.. maybe a saffa can do it more correctly, but as far as i know it should be:

Lions - Jo'berg
Sharks - Durban
Cheetahs - Bloemfontein
Bulls - Pretoria
Stormers - Cape Town

.. and then i can sort out the official test locations.

Here's a screen that I made. I think Rugby 08 knows that the jig is up. :(

In any case, I found that there are commentary files for all 3 sets of Lions tours. It would be really good to hear those instead of intros to the 6 nations. :(

I've also gotten the voluntary assistance of one of the most reknowned programmers in the FIFA community, who's also an avid rugby player, and he has Rugby 08. I've told him everything that I know so far to do with our efforts in getting the Lions Tour up and running, and with his technical knowledge, he could possibly help us. He just needs to learn his way around the game's structure, which is much different to editing FIFA.

One other Q: Rugby 08 has Lions Tours' structures available for all 3 SH teams. I'm thinking that if it's possible to unlock atleast one tour then the others should be unlocakble too. Or you could atleast make a mod to swap between each of the three text types. Also, does it happen to work in 06 that you can choose from each of the SH tours, or is there only the 2005 campaign vs NZ available?

Those pads are just placeholders. I have seen these on some screens from MUP09 too. Obviously, it is not in-game originally, but those placeholder graphics can be found, edited and they will appear correct afterwards. There are some strange things with this game when you edit. Certain things seem to change when there is no logical way it can do so.

Maybe your fifa friend can help us, but it's more likely it will be so alien to them that they just won't know what's going on. EA Rugby is totally different from any other EA game i have ever patched. It's like a beta version database before they gave the files proper names.

My Lions Tour mode will work. What you will probably find is that the south african stadiums cannot load the 6 nations pads, as it is not configured to do so in the 456c6d548b2e7a8a1d9c7016d63d7bfe.xml. This is why it loads a placeholder. You can edit that placeholder, or edit the xml.. both methods works.

The xml gives a list of the ads and pads that it displays for each competition. There would be no codeline for 6 nations mode in south african stadiums, so therefore if we add it, it will load them.

Also, I've had a look at the tournament logos in 216da and the ones for the 10 Nations and Lions Tour. They're all the same format. I don't know if you guys know about the EA tool called FshEd, but that's what i used to verify this. So importing the two tournaments' logos could easily be done.
